Practical: means basic, useful, purposeful Life: means the way of living.
Practical life Exercises are just that, they are Exercises so the child can learn how to do living activities in a purposeful way. The purpose and aim of Practical Life is to help the child gain control in the coordination of his movement, and help the child to gain independence and adapt to his society. It is therefore important to “Teach teaching, not correcting” (Montessori) in order to allow the child to be a fully functionional member in hios own society. Practical Life Exercises also aid the growth and development of the child’s intellect and concentration and will in turn also help the child develop an orderly way of thinking.
Practical Life Exercises can be categorized into four different groups: Preliminary Applications, Applied Applications, Grace and Courtesy, and Control of Moment. In the Preliminary Exercises, the child learns the basic movements of all societies such as pouring, folding, and carrying. Association Montessori International / USA. I don't know why it's taken me so long to write it. You know how sometimes something can be so precious and sacred that it seems hard to describe it in words? That is kind of how I've felt about sharing this. Still, it's so worth sharing and I hope I'll do it justice here. This year I decided to try something new in the classroom. All the poems I am using I found on the website CanTeach. When introducing the poem to the children, I first presented it orally. The second week, I added the print to our poetry practice. Below you can see two photos showing our pocket chart for the September poem, "September. " I wish you could see the "far away" version of this photo with one four-year-old pointing and reading while three little friends gathered 'round to watch and read with her. During the third week, I introduced the poetry basket. Below you can see our September poetry basket.
