The pattern layout below shows you how to place the pattern pieces on the fabric. Make sure that the straight grain line marked on each pattern pieces runs parallel to the selvedges. Use a ruler and tailor‘s chalk to mark allowances around the paper pattern pieces: 4 cm (1 5/8 ins) for hem and sleeve hems, 1 cm (3/8 in) for band joining seams, and 1.5 cm (5/8 in) at all other seams and edges. Cut out the fabric pieces along these lines.

TUTORIAL: a simple skirt | MADE

http://www.danamadeit.com/2008/07/tutorial-a-simple-skirt.html The concept is nothing new. We’re making a simple gathered skirt, with an elastic waistband. But a while back I made this two-tiered skirt for Lucy and I’ve been itching to write-up a tutorial for it ever since. So today is the day!

20 Ways to Decorate With Book Pages {and other things about the book party}

Since the moment I knew my sister was going to write a book, I knew I was going to throw her a big party. Book pages seemed to be the obvious choice for decor. So I purposely limited myself to books and paper. And anything I could find around the house was fair game to join in the fun with a supporting role. $6 :: bag of long glue sticks {never buy the short ones, you {I} have to keep loading them too often and it’s annoying, also, don’t buy the blueish sticks–make sure they are VERY clear or else your glue will have a blueish hue.

DIY modern paper ornament | How About Orange

I love spiky starburst shapes, so I attempted a version of the traditional Polish porcupine ball. Here's how to make this cool 3D ornament—great for Christmas or decorating any time. I can imagine jumbo sized versions hanging at parties or weddings.
11/16/11 Edited to say: For those of you who just can't get enough quilled snowflakes, there are three more free patterns here ! Today I'm featuring the beautiful snowflakes of two quillers I've had the pleasure of getting to know through the North American Quilling Guild ( NAQG ). Deb Mackes of Pennsylvania is a pro at making snowflakes... in fact, she doesn't even use a grid to ensure an even layout. Mind boggling! No doubt practice makes perfect, but Deb must possess an especially even gaze and steady hands. http://www.allthingspaper.net/2009/12/quilled-snowflakes.html

d.i.y. project: quilled snowflakes It hasn't yet snowed here in Boulder Colorado, but perhaps if enough people create some quilled versions of the tiny cold beauties-the snow fairies will be summoned. Quilling is very simple and only consists of wrapping and gluing strips of paper together. These images are from this flickr collection. A very detailed tutorial on how to quill can be found at the DIY network .
