Columbia Winery: Offering Wine Education Classes
Columbia Winery is kicking off 2012 with a wine education series that begins on January 23rd. The program is divided into 20 classes with discussions of specific wine regions, history, laws of wine production and tasting of that regions wines. You can purchase single classes, a five class program or the full course of all twenty classes that are being offered. Regular readers of this blog know we are major fans of Walla Walla wine. We don’t get to visit Walla Walla nearly as often as we would like, so when Walla Walla comes to Seattle, it’s a must-go-to event. So I dashed out to SoDo during my lunch break to visit friends and have a few (very small) tastes at “Walla Walla Wine @SoDo Park” last week. Abeja 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon – This fine Cab is blended with 4% Merlot, in John Abbot’s fashion of being true to the varietal and to the state. There are many, many more excellent Walla Walla wineries – and we highly recommend you visit them in Walla Walla. Some of them have tasting rooms in Woodinville too.Wine

Shoppers at some of Washington's many farmers markets may soon be able to sample locally produced wines before purchasing them. Olympia, Wash. -- Up to 20 wineries could be allowed to pour their wines at Washington state farmers markets under a pilot program lawmakers here will consider this Friday. The bill received house approval Feb. 15 and will come before state senators Friday. February, 2010 has come to a close. March brings spring which leads to BBQ’s, running outdoors and most importantly, trips to God’s country – Walla Walla, Lake Chelan and Woodinville. With the closing of the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver – these are the gold medal winners of tweeters! While I didn’t formally review this wine, I did have an impromptu visit with JJ Williams (aka 1EyeWineGuy) during a recent trip to Costco.In tough times, we continue the search for good, inexpensive wines. As I wrote in my recent Focus Report , Lemberger is a signature grape for Kiona Winery and Vineyards . Kiona was the first to commercially produce the variety in the U.S. back in 1980. The Williams family, who own and run the winery, have fourteen acres on Red Mountain planted to Lemberger.
