Obama administration backs House patent reform bill - The Hill's Hillicon Valley
The Commerce Department on Tuesday expressed support for the patent reform bill pending in the House, indicating the legislation is likely to become law in the near future. The America Invents Act passed the House Judiciary Committee last month and is similar to a bill that passed the Senate with strong bipartisan support in March. House Judiciary Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) worked closely with Senate Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) in crafting the bill with an eye on getting it in front of President Obama this summer.

Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, the United States did not have a national bank, and originally, currency was issued based on economic activity, not an artifical measure of wealth. Later, gold became its measure of value. Then, in 1913, at a meeting on Jekyll Island, the Federal Reserve was created. Suddenly, instead of issuing currency to pay for it's activities, the US government began issuing bonds...and we the people were made to pay interest on them to the big bankers and foreign states that held them.

Eric Blair Activist Post My first thought upon hearing the news of the rare 5.9 magnitude earthquake in Virginia this week was that it was not a natural occurrence. After all, no one has ever felt or even heard of such a powerful temblor happening in this area in a lifetime. As is usual for my cynical instincts, I hoped that I was wrong. However, several anomalies indicate that something is not normal with the Virginia quake. First, I spend a lot of time in the "Ring of Fire" zone and have experienced numerous earthquakes.

UPDATE 8:00 PM (Eastern): It looks like Bariloche is being heaviest hit by the ash from the eruption - looks like a lot of ash on the ground in the resort town. You can see more of the ash fall images here as well. The Chilean government is evacuating over 3,500 people from the region near the volcano and also closed a border crossing between Chile and Argentina. Some incandescence was spotted at the summit of the volcano as well.
