The DNA of Luxury: Defining Desire With Consumers. To create aspiration, we often hear “luxury” associated with many products and brands. Luxury cars. Luxury vacations. Luxury shoes. Marketers seemingly hope that this elevation into “luxury” maintains recession-proof sales. “Success in luxury rarely comes without a story, and ideally a myth,” according to Paul McGowan of Added Value. A fantastic example of a luxury brand pushing its iconic identity was in “L’Odyssée de Cartier” video. Pierre Adenot composed the original score of this three and a half minute short film. A more recent example of a brilliant luxury marketing campaign that pushes the boundaries of reality is none other than Alexander McQueen’s fall/winter 2012 film. And of course, when it comes an iconic marketing push, it’s impossible not to reference Chanel.

Defining luxury, though, is often in the eye of the consumer. 1. Since the motivation for luxury is to reach and/or create desire, the behavior of the consumer works in interesting ways. 34 Coolest Food Packaging Designs Of 2012. How to Be Happier at Work: 10 Tips. Happiness--in your business life and your personal life--is often a matter of subtraction, not addition. Consider, for example, what happens when you stop doing the following 10 things: 1. Blaming.

People make mistakes. Employees don't meet your expectations. Vendors don't deliver on time. So you blame them for your problems. But you're also to blame. Taking responsibility when things go wrong instead of blaming others isn't masochistic, it's empowering--because then you focus on doing things better or smarter next time. And when you get better or smarter, you also get happier. 2. No one likes you for your clothes, your car, your possessions, your title, or your accomplishments. Sure, superficially they might seem to, but superficial is also insubstantial, and a relationship that is not based on substance is not a real relationship. Genuine relationships make you happier, and you'll only form genuine relationships when you stop trying to impress and start trying to just be yourself. 3. 4. 5. English pronunciation test. While most of you non-native speakers of English speak English quite well, there is always room for improvement (of course, the same could be said for every person for any subject, but that is another matter).

To that end, I'd like to offer you a poem. Once you've learned to correctly pronounce every word in this poem, you will be speaking English better than 90% of the native English speakers in the world. If you find it tough going, do not despair, you are not alone: Multi-national personnel at North Atlantic Treaty Organization headquarters near Paris found English to be an easy language ... until they tried to pronounce it. To help them discard an array of accents, the verses below were devised. After trying them, a Frenchman said he'd prefer six months at hard labor to reading six lines aloud. Try them yourself. Dearest creature in creation, Study English pronunciation. Just compare heart, beard, and heard, Dies and diet, lord and word, Sword and sward, retain and Britain. Monday probably won't be so bad... The Gayness of Batman: A Brief History [Opinion]

“Gayness is built into Batman. … Batman is very, very gay. There’s just no denying it. Obviously as a fictional character he’s intended to be heterosexual, but the basis of the whole concept is utterly gay.” As we reported last week, this was the claim made by Batman, Incorporated writer Grant Morrison in an interview with Playboy where he offers his insights into the psychology of superheroes. In Morrison’s view, Batman’s attachment to Alfred and Robin and his alleged detachment from the women in “fetish clothes” who “jump around rooftops to get to him” is symptomatic of his conceptual gayness. That’s a very selective framing, but as Morrison told the LA Times in 2010, “Batman can take anything. That’s not true, of course. When we talk about Batman’s gayness, we talk about presentation and perception.

Something about Batman begs the question, and there are multiple possible triggers. To Wertham this was alarming. That is not a positive message, I know. Batman is not gay. Yesterday I would have considered myself an advocate for fashion for the masses - about fashion being available for everyone, affordable fashion, designer and high-street and vintage and the like. Four or five decades ago, high-fashion was strictly for the elite classes.

Designer- high-street collabs are definitely a step in the opposite direction. But I myself, am beginning to think that fashion being available for everyone may not be such a good idea after all. Fashion is meant to be elitist. No, dear civilians at the bus stop, I do not have a leopard print purse for it to match with my similar leopard print carry-all. Sometimes I swear I find it difficult to get dressed for a day out, especially to uni because of two reasons: a. because I really can't be bothered to get dressed - oh the shame. b. as soon as I put an effort into getting dressed I realise that it might be too much for the general mass to comprehend and I'll end up getting stared at wherever I go.

Krista Peck On 12/14/2012 Anyone who has been online for the last few years has noticed a remarkable shift away from busy, poorly designed websites and communities; and towards streamlined, almost minimalist sites and applications. While we are undeniably more digital than ever, it seems that we are taking a step back — not to move backward, but to regroup, realign and refine our online experiences as we move forward. With the rise of microblogging platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest and Instagram, one has to wonder why these virtual tools are currently in vogue.

As people transition from spending most of their online time on individual websites and blogs to social networks and microblogging platforms, it’s important for people and brands to take a look at the motivating factors behind this change. Here are five psychologically based reasons why microblogging likely appeals to us: Photo Taken By xoKristaPeck With Instagram 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. I Have A Degree In This! Art and design. You Better Work! Conditional vs. Unconditional Love. I don’t spend nearly the time I did in my 20s contemplating the nature of love. These days, when I think about love, it usually is in reference to my family. But, ever curious, I looked up the term “unconditional love” the other day. It is interesting that most searches on the term come to the conclusion that unconditional love is the best kind of love and the sort we should all be aspiring to.

And yes, when I re-read my diaries from my 20s, I remember that I dreamt of nothing but my heart’s undying thirst to be seen or to be completely known. I was on the prowl for someone who spoke my language, who saw me, loved me and never wavered. A religious experience. Akin to something like heaven. I’ve been thinking about all this as I read yet another bedtime story ending in “happily ever after” or beginning with a love that was “at first sight”. So, I revisited the sage words of our dear friend Leon Wieseltier, who married my husband and I at our wedding. Aha, I say! It forces me to WORK! What Will We Miss When It’s 2033? How Zara Grew Into the World’s Largest Fashion Retailer. Fashion: how the global market is changing seasonal collections | Fashion.

Next month, the fashion world begins its bi-annual merry-go-round of fashion shows. This time around, designers and brands in New York, London, Milan and Paris will be showing collections for autumn/winter 2013. That might, in most people's minds, denote the colours of falling leaves, coats, opaque tights, hats and gloves ... what we wear when the weather changes, right? Wrong. In recent years, winter collections have included exotic hothouse flowers and miniskirts with bare legs and sunglasses, while the most recent round of summer shows featured layering, coats and a whole lot of very winter-worthy black.

This isn't just designers getting confused – instead, it's part of a bigger trend towards a sort of seasonless style. This is a problem at the heart of fashion right now – Vogue ran a three-page article addressing the problem in a recent issue and designers are getting involved in the debate. So could this spell the end of the seasonal fashion show? So, What Does a Fashion Digital Content Producer Do? | PR Couture. On Friday we linked to an article put out by Weber Shandwick that sounded the alarm bells for any PR agencies not taking content marketing seriously. In the article, Michael O'Neil states that "Agencies...need to infuse digital creativity throughout their network and practices. They need to build teams of designers, editors, coders, developers and more, capable of recognising and responding to the opportunities when they emerge.

" While the idea of content marketing has its origin in B2B as a strategy to drive leads, fashion brands routinely lauded for their digital savvy - ModCloth, Burberry, NastyGal, Net-a-Porter, the list goes on - have all made investments in a robust content development strategy. Some of which went so far as to bring in print fashion editor's to man the post, causing PSFK to ask the question back in January, 'Will the Future Fashion Magazines Just Be Retail Blogs? Shutterstock’s designers took objects that best represented the characters of the series and paired those with their 21st century equivalent that fans of the series would understand.
