It gets me into a state of “flow”, helps me relax, and brings about a sense of joy. Today I thought I’d share a tutorial on a project I recently made. I started with a ball of variegated yarn and here is how the piece evolved: One partially used ball of Northern Lights variegated yarn from the Deborah Norville collection Chain 8 + 1 turning chain. At end of first row, make a turning chain. After 4 rows, it should look like this, curling up into a spiral. Chain 9 (8 chains + 1). At the end of the second spiral node, chain 9.

Variation – instead of chaining 9 at the end of the last spiral node to begin a new one, start crocheting a 5th row (increasing in every other stitch as with the other rows). It’s fun to see how the variegated yarn plays out differently for each spiral node. Halfway done! Toward the end of the project, I just kept going past 4 rows and made an extra big spiral node. Kris Kringle gift giving for my sewing group is coming up, I love this little group we gather and bring out cups, sit and sip and stitch in company, it's also a chance for me to visit with Mum on a weekly basis doing something we love together is always good....but I digress.

So this will be the second year in a row that I will be making a little MUG BAG, having done the draw string kind I wanted one that looked a little more like a handbag & with some simple quilting. I know one of the teachers has one that all the girls admire, so I thought well I think I can make it, so to the quilting table I went and drew and measured and I think I have done it justice considering it was just from memory.......

Then it was oh why not share it as a Tutorial too.... Annemarie's Haakblog. Alma Stoller: how to make fabric beads with cotton balls. Tutorial and product review A few months ago, I was asked by ArtBeads.com to review some of there products. So, I decided to create a tutorial along with this product review to showcase my use of the beads I got from them. ArtBeads.com sent me the most AMAZING gold and metallic white gold beads so I decided to make fabric beads with it. Start with a strip of fabric and a cotton ball Use a cotton thread to stitch the fabric down Use a beading thread, (Nymo size D) to stitch beads on it.

I've never worked with gold beads before, but I completely loved working with these. They really sparkle and stand out against the fabric and they were incredibly easy and smooth to stitch through. Each bead is uniform in size, no snagging or sharp edges. Once the beads are stitched to the fabric, you can string it up to make a necklace, or ornament anything of your choice. Disclosure.... I receive the above items free of charge. I have been asked to review these products and to of the above product. All Grown Up Striped Slouch Hat.

Moogly reader Brea recently came up with the brilliant idea of making a slouchy hat to match the All Grown Up Arm Warmers – and she was kind enough to let me run with it! And with or without the Arm Warmers, I think the All Grown Up Striped Slouch Hat is a keeper! Of course, the All Grown Up Arm Warmers are sized for adults – if you’re making the smaller size of this slouch hat for a tween, you’ll want to use the Sweet Striped Crochet Arm Warmers to complete the set! Sweet Eleanor This pattern was inspired by the Octoberfestdoily by Denise Owens. I wanted to make something special for my sister’s birthday. She likes simple elegance and warm tan/neutral shades so this was a natural choice. The thread I used is quite a heavy thread from the Handweaver’s Studio and Gallery and it’s 50% cotton 50% linen. It is quite soft and has a nice rough texture that adds interest to the simple pattern. About 400m of similar weight thread should get you somethign a similar size. Thanks to Lilacia on Ravelry for testing this for me. British notation is used.

EDITED TO ADD: Lots of people have asked in the comments what I mean by this and I apologise for not have clarified sooner. Be aware that every row increases the length as well as the width.
