Incredibly Simple Slouchy Hat - Free Pattern! - ELK Studio - Handcrafted Crochet Designs

Yea, me too especially since the holidays are coming up so quickly! I haven’t played around with chunky yarn very much in my crochet experience but since having used it while making a free cowl pattern from Beatrice Ryan Designs, I’ve come to like the feel and how quickly a project works up. I tried two different types of chunky yarn for this project because I always want to see which yarn can give me the results I’m trying to carry out. My first choice was “I Love This Chunky Yarn” by Hobby Lobby and the other was by Lion Brand. In the end, I chose “I Love This Chunky Yarn” because it was so super soft and for a hat, I think that’s pretty important.

Now, on to the pattern. Supplies: Catty Making Out: Bow Strap Headband. Difficulty: Time-Consuming This pattern started off as a simple experiment in creating bows, but ended up as a fun headband. The bows are created first, with a series of stitches in the middle which create the "knot" look, and create the loops through which the bands are pulled. The bands themselves are worked as two separate i-cords, and then joined together at the end.

For this project, I used 1 skein of Bernat Satin wool (182m/100g), and three 3.75mm double-pointed needles (the third used only when joining the bows and band ends together). = stitches With doubled-pointed needles, cast on 4 sts. Repeat rows 7 and 8 two more times. Row 13: the same as row 7, EXCEPT for each stitch worked, wrap the yarn around the needle three times instead of just once. Row 14: pass each stitch onto the right needle, dropping the extra loops in the process. Row 15: p1, make one, p inc1, make 1, p1, make 1, p1. Row 22: k2, k2tog, skpsso, k2. Cast on 6 sts. Row 1: k2, p2, k2. How to Knit in the Round with Circular Needles. When I discovered knitting in the round, I was totally floored...how wonderful to be able to make seamless tubes!

How to Knit in the Round with Circular Needles

Knitting in the round allows you to make seamless hats, sweaters, cowls, and anything else you desire. Generally (but not always), it's good to use double pointed needles for smaller tubes...here's how to do that: You can also use the "Magic Loop" method to make smaller tubes too, but that's something we'll chat about another day.

Today dear stitchers, were going to make a larger tube with a circular needle. To get started, all you need is some yarn, a circular needle, and a stitch marker. How to Knit the Double Moss Stitch. It’s available in four sizes, and knits up SO quick. Plus, it’s a great stash/leftover yarn project. You put three or four strands of yarn together and knit them like they’re one bulky strand of yarn. The small one is made of four strands of varying blue yarns; the bigger one is 2 strands of black and 1 strand of grey, then 2 black and 1 red for the color band.

How to Yarn Over: 5 Steps. Crochet & Knitting. Knitting: Skills and techniques. Knitting Cables. The simple technique of cabling (crossing one group of stitches over another) lends itself to many interpretations in knitting.

Knitting Cables

It's easy to do, you can make all kinds of interesting and imaginative cable patterns. All it takes is a little patience and practice. You can make any kind of cable by suspending (holding) a number of stitches on a cable needle (cn) while you knit that same number of stitches from the LH needle. Then you knit the suspended stitches either by returning them to the LH needle and knitting them or by knitting them straight from the cable needle.

This process of knitting stitches out of order enables you to cross stitches, creating cables. Standard or rope cables are the most basic cables. If you want to make a cable that looks like it's twisting to the left, you hold your suspended stitches in front of your work while you knit from the LH needle. If you want to make a cable that twists to the right, hold the suspended stitches in back.
