Praxinoscope - Google Patent

More particularly, disclosed herein is a praxinoscope kit and method and a praxinoscope formed therefrom wherein a plurality of panels can be assembled into a praxinoscope without a need for separate fasteners, glue, tape, or complex manufacturing methods. The praxinoscope, which was invented in 1877 by Charles-Emile Reynaud, is an animation device wherein a strip retaining a plurality of sequential animation images is retained facing inwardly in an annular configuration by a cylindrical outer wall. A plurality of mirrors, each typically flat, are disposed to form a generally annular, faceted inner wall spaced from the outer wall. The walls, mirrors, and images are placed so that the reflections of the animation images appear to be essentially stationary in position as the praxinoscope is rotated. Making a Laser-cut Zoetrope with Processing and Kinect. We’ve been loving the job that Andrew Odewahn has been doing with the Codebox column.

Making a Laser-cut Zoetrope with Processing and Kinect

But Andrew has always liked the idea of having others contribute to it and explore the Processing language from different angles. So he introduced us to Greg Borenstein, an artist and teacher from New York. This is Greg’s first guest contribution to the column. Greg’s work explores the use of special effects as an artistic medium. He is fascinated by how special effects techniques cross the boundary between images and the physical objects that make them: miniatures, motion capture, 3D animation, animatronics, and digital fabrication. This codebox shows you how to create a physical zoetrope using Processing, a Kinect, and a laser cutter. About Zoetropes Before jumping into the code, a bit of cultural history and inspiration. Recently, people have begun to figure out how to achieve the same illusion with three dimensional objects. So, what’s the recipe for a physical zoetrope? Let’s dive in.

For the first time, both black and white reporters cover the trial epitomizing "one of the most shocking and enduring stories of the twentieth century. " The white defendants, Roy Bryant and J.W. Milam, are acquitted by an all-white jury in only 67 minutes; later they describe in full detail to Look magazine (which paid them $4,000) how they killed Till. His mother insists on an open casket funeral, and the powerful image of his mutilated body sparks a strong reaction across the country and the world. December 1, 1955 The arrest of Rosa Parks, a 42-year-old African-American seamstress and civil rights activist who refused to give up her bus seat to a white passenger, sets off a long anticipated bus boycott by residents of Montgomery, Ala.

Praxinoscope CRéé par Andrew Bever. Ok, so turns out a praxinoscope is no easy task!

Praxinoscope CRéé par Andrew Bever

We underestimated how fiddly it would be to cut mirror, get all the measurements right and glue the whole thing together along with the bike wheel! First of all, we found the circumference of the circle, which Faysal's maths qualification came in very useful for. Then we divided this by 12 (the praxinoscope's we saw in the childhood museum had 12 mirrors so we thought we would do the same) after doing this we attempted to find the middle of the circle, however this proved fairly inaccurate because the garden sieve we used to attach to the wheel was not perfectly circle.

After this, we constructed a dodecahedron (12 sided shape) to glue the mirror panels to in the centre of the praxinoscope. So far, so good...now the hard part: cutting the mirror. We found the mirror outside James and Faysals flat, it was very thin so we thought this would make it easier to cut. Fab labs. Diapo Presentation Fablab. Courant "makers" "fab lab"
