September 26, 2012 AT 5:00 am Check out the recent opening of another 3D Printer store, Deezmaker, in Pasadena, CA. A bit further than MakerBot for us, but great news for those in the Greater Los Angeles Area! They will be offering the Bukobot and those from other vendors as well as setting the space up as a 3D printing-focused makerspace.

(Via Engadget.) If the MakerBot store in Manhattan is the East coast’s vanguard for 3D printer stores, Deezmaker’s just-opened store in Pasadena, California is the equivalent pioneer for the West coast crew. … No matter how it all shakes out, we’re hoping that the two near-simultaneous store openings are the start of a larger trend that takes 3D printing into the mainstream. Reprap » Githubiverse – A Github Pages Template for 3D Printing Projects. I’m a big fan of github, and I think it provides an excellent set of resources for hosting 3D printing projects. Recently I had the idea that it would be useful if these projects were able to utilise Github Pages to provide a project landing page, showing similar information to that found on Thingiverse. It sounded like a fun little diversion so I threw together something called githubiverse. It currently consists of a Github Pages template: drop this into the gh-pages branch of any github project, add a little configuration, and your github pages will display the source files, STLs and any images, along with some other information.

The beauty here is that the content is dynamically pulled from the github repository so it is always up to date. The screenshot doesn’t do it justice so here is an example site: garyhodgson.github.com/githubiverse-tst. [Update: The way I have used Thingiview means that only ascii STL files are correctly displayed. Githubiverse Mendel90 Further Ideas. Crowdfilament | Filament for de Masses. Models. A3D Home. Pocket Factory: It’s a Dirty Job, but Someone’s Got to Do It, Dispatch #2. Products! Products! Products! Such is the thought flooding my head as we move into our fourth hour at the Victoria flea market without selling a gosh-darn thing. Our printers are cranking away merrily, we’ve got a crowd hovering around, captivated, and Bilal, Ilan, and I are chatting up the crowd with our charming selves.

Lots of looking, but no buying. For those of you who have no idea who we are, we’re the Pocket Factory. We currently know how to make six things: iPhone cases, belt buckles, 3D portraits, a gramophone horn that passively amplifies iPhone speakers, custom nose cones for model rockets, and a little necklace that I made this morning of a little duck with gears in its belly, and the gears spin as you move it along the necklace chain. One reason is the printers. We’ve got a theory about printed products — when you’re sitting around for hours not selling anything, you have lots of time to come up with theories. And customization!
