How to Use a Mala A mala is a string of beads, used to chant the names of God. It’s the same thing as prayer beads, or a rosary. A Hindu mala typically has either 108 beads (108 being considered a sacred number in Hinduism) or 27 beads (which is one-fourth of 108). In addition to the 108 or 27 “counting beads,” a mala generally has an additional bead, called the “guru bead,” which hangs perpendicular to the circle of counting beads. A Hindu mala is usually worked with by using the right hand. Now for those of you who are left-handed (as I am): In India, you would be inclined to use the right hand anyway, because of certain cultural traditions. Doing a mantra doesn’t require using a mala; the mala is just there to add another dimension to the practice. Help Support These Teachings If you enjoyed How to Use a Mala, please support our efforts to continue making teachings from Ram Dass and friends accessible to all. Harvard Study Reveals What Meditation Literally Does To Gastrointestinal (Bowel) Disorders The hits just keep on coming when it comes to the health benefits of meditation. Research is now emerging that would justify implementing this practice within hospitals and schools (some already do) as well as including it in treatment recommendations for various diseases. Not long ago, an eight week study conducted by Harvard researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) determined that meditation literally rebuilds the brains grey matter in just eight weeks. It was the very first study to document that meditation produces changes over time in the brain’s grey matter. The study comes out of the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC). Given the two studies cited above, and all of the other documented health benefits of meditation, this should open the door for more studies to examine the benefits of meditation for a wide range of diseases. Erowid Yoga Vault : Psychedelic Yoga The following article originally appeared as an uncopyrighted set of mimeographed sheets sometime during the late 1960's, which was freely distributed on a limited basis, probably in San Francisco. Feel free to make copies of this article and to distribute them to those interested to keep this information alive, otherwise it will disappear into antiquity. It was also published in the San Francisco Oracle # 8, pg 11, June 1967. The fact that psychedelic drugs induce a greater sensitivity to subtle spiritual and psychic energies, and speed up the influx of impressions from deeper levels of consciousness, raises the immediate question of how these energies can be properly understood and handled. According to Yoga philosophy, the most spiritual and powerful aspect of man's nature is the faculty of attention or consciousness. The goal of all Yoga practices is to discover and directly experience what the attention or faculty of consciousness in man is. Sound Current Meditation

What Is Meditation? Cool "If you go to Catholic, Jaina, Buddhist monks you will find them very nervous – maybe not so nervous in their monasteries, but if you bring them out to the world, you will find them very, very nervous because on each step there is temptation. "A man of meditation comes to a point where there is no temptation left. Try to understand it. "People live with cliches – 'Hello, how are you?' "A man of meditation has learned how to be full of energy, at the maximum, optimum. Osho, Dang Dang Doko Dang, Talk #5 To continue reading click here

New Page "Heal the People, Simple Easy..." — Tom Tam What is Tong Ren? Tong Ren Therapy is a form of distance energy healing developed by Tom Tam, a prominent Boston area acupuncturist and healer. Tong Ren uniquely combines a western knowledge of anatomy and physiology with the ancient principle of "chi" or life force energy to create what many consider to be a powerful new healing modality. Tong Ren healing is based on the belief that disease is related to interruptions, or blockages, in the body's natural flow of chi, neural bio-electricity, blood, and/or hormones. Unlike qigong healing, which depends on the personal energy of the healer, Tong Ren is believed to access universal energy and direct it to the patient. Tong Ren is now a global healing methodology with success stories (some quite remarkable) from many countries around the world. And they should try it on everything. Private Sessions I offer personal Tong Ren healing sessions of 30-60 minutes. Instruction Group Healing Video

How to Meditate "If there is something you truly want to know, then you truly want to listen to your own wisdom. You know, meditation is learning how to listen with your own wisdom, so that you can see. I think why meditation is amazingly important, is that somehow our unconscious world is much bigger. It is huge, universal, and we don't understand that one. Meditation allows this world to be light and knowable, understandable. "The most important thing is practice in daily life; then you can know gradually the true value of religion. I would strongly advise everyone to make an effort to start with a serious course in meditation in a centre or group under the guidance of an experienced teacher, preferably with at least a few days in silence. Many people discover it quickly becomes more essential and helpful than a good breakfast or 'the first cup of coffee' in the morning. Bio-Energetics: Questions To Ask Yourself If You Have Physical Pain, Sickness, Or Disease The physical body is a vehicle for your emotions, spirit, and psychology, and as such it will always react and response to what is happening to you internally. Raised by Western philosophy and Western medicine, our first thought when we get sick is “What medication should I take to alleviate my symptoms?”. Through my recent journeys through physical illnesses of main kinds, I am starting to realize that bio-decoding lies at the heart of healing. Bio-decoding is the act of treating your physical symptoms as signposts pointing towards psychoemotional issues. Unhealed emotional wounds and emotional blockages lie at the heart of chronic diseases. Nutrition plays a huge role as well, but everyone is starting to experience health in a much more holistic way, and science is beginning to catch up with this. » Meditation for Beginners: 20 Practical Tips for Quieting the Mind Editor’s note: This is a guest post from Todd Goldfarb at the We The Change blog. Meditation is the art of focusing 100% of your attention in one area. The practice comes with a myriad of well-publicized health benefits including increased concentration, decreased anxiety, and a general feeling of happiness. Although a great number of people try meditation at some point in their lives, a small percentage actually stick with it for the long-term. This is unfortunate, and a possible reason is that many beginners do not begin with a mindset needed to make the practice sustainable. The purpose of this article is to provide 20 practical recommendations to help beginners get past the initial hurdles and integrate meditation over the long term: 1) Make it a formal practice. 2) Start with the breath. 4) Meditate with Purpose. 5) Notice frustration creep up on you. 6) Experiment. 7) Feel your body parts. 8) Pick a specific room in your home to meditate. 9) Read a book (or two) on meditation.

Mudras: The Healing Power in your Hands “In this respect, Kundalini Yoga assumes that every area of the hand forms a reflex zone for an associated part of the body and the brain. In this way, we can consider the hands to be a mirror for our body and our mind.” ~ Lothar Rüdiger Lütge, Kundalini yoga expert Practiced since antiquity in combination with pranayama, asanas and meditation, Mudras or Hand Gestures is a practice to improve your physical, mental and spiritual well-being. Our hands define our karma and fingers being the power points, are a link between individual Pranic force and universal cosmic energy. The subtle hand and finger movements make important connections in the nervous system and stimulate specific energy pathways or nadis. Yogis believed if one wants to cure any disease, they can tap into the energy of the elements and rectify the imbalance with the practice of suitable mudras. Mudras redirect the energy flow to the upper Chakras, and gradually establish a link between all the Koshas (layers) of the body.

Put An Ice Cube On This Point Of Your Neck And Witness The Miracle by DailyNutritionNews You have probably never thought that a daily use of ice cubes can help your body heal and recharge and make you a bit younger and energetic. It can happen if you put an ice cube at the point where your head and neck are connected. This technique is closely related to Chinese acupuncture and according to it, the point where you have to place the ice cube is called Feng Fu, which translates to “wind mansion”. Just hold the cube for 20 minutes on the Feng Fu point. By doing this every day you will begin to feel euphoria. For example: This method helps the body to return its balance, so technically it is not a cure, but a rejuvenation method. However, the method may show contraindications in cases of schizophrenia, epilepsy, pacemakers, and during pregnancy.

How to Use Meditation to Help You Out of a Depressive State By Robert L. Rupp Guest Writer for Wake Up World We live in interesting times. On the exterior, we live in a vastly advanced society with impressive social structure and the ability to innovate. On the exterior, we have hundreds of differing medicines and procedures to help us deal with a myriad of physical ailments that could affect us. Depression is a formidable opponent for millions. From a neurological standpoint, most people effected by depression show reduced alpha activity in the frontal lobes. It should be understood that meditation, although simple, has been proven to offer moderate relief in addressing psychological stress. Knowing that meditating causes an increase in alpha brainwave activity and that those with depression show reduced alpha wave activity in the frontal lobes helps many to place belief in their meditative practice. In order to use meditation to help bring you out of a depressive state, the first thing you must do is believe it will work. Reference:
