The art of the tutorial: When to hold a player's hand, when to let it go Earlier this month, my Twitter feed flared up briefly with complaints about the "hand-holdy" quality of tutorials in many modern games. It subsided pretty quickly, but I thought it raised some interesting questions: Who do you build tutorials for, exactly? How have developers changed their approach to tutorial design now that games which envelop players with barely any attempt at guidance -- titles like Minecraft, Dark Souls and DayZ -- have become huge influences on the industry? And perhaps most importantly to developers -- if you're going to welcome players into your game with some level of tutorializing, how do you do it well? It's something I've been thinking about quite a bit recently, and so I reached out to a handful of experienced developers from different corners of the industry to get their perspective on the best way to make people feel comfortable the first time they play your game.

Typeset In The Future Right from the opening scene, we're treated to Kubrick's love of bold, clean, sans-serif typography: This title card is set in Gill Sans, one of the all-time classic sans-serif fonts. Perhaps surprisingly, the zeroes in ‘2001’ appear to be set with the Gill Sans capital letter O (shown below on the left), rather than its zero character (shown on the right): After introducing us to Albertus, the Dawn Of Man turns out to be typographically unremarkable. So, let's skip forward a little, and join Dr. Heywood R. I'll do a proper post soon - this is a fraction of the work - But I had the distinct pleasure of working with Cantina Creative, leading the design of the glass screens for the Helicarier in the Avengers. BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE In the world of superheroes, no two legends loom quite so large as Batman and Superman, and no villain is quite as memorable as Lex Luthor. These legends finally hit the big screen together for the first time, in one of the biggest blockbuster events of 2016. Not only did some of the most popular characters in history fight it out, but they also set up the entire future of DC’s cinematic universe. So when Warner Brothers approached Perception in the summer of 2015 with the task of creating new UIs for Batman and Lex Luthor, our studio jumped at the opportunity. These two interfaces serve as an excellent foil for each other and each plays to its creator’s individual personality. In addition to these two operating systems, Perception worked on Wonder Woman’s laptop, drone POV, show packages, and several other screens throughout the film.

I Bring Russian Fairy Tales To Life My name is Margarita Kareva, I'm a photographer from the Ekaterinburg (Russia). Show Full Text I started taking pictures about 5 years ago, had not even suspected that it will be my profession. Since then, I often say thanks to the Universe for giving me a passion for my life. The meaning of life in a world without work Most jobs that exist today might disappear within decades. As artificial intelligence outperforms humans in more and more tasks, it will replace humans in more and more jobs. Many new professions are likely to appear: virtual-world designers, for example. But such professions will probably require more creativity and flexibility, and it is unclear whether 40-year-old unemployed taxi drivers or insurance agents will be able to reinvent themselves as virtual-world designers (try to imagine a virtual world created by an insurance agent!). And even if the ex-insurance agent somehow makes the transition into a virtual-world designer, the pace of progress is such that within another decade he might have to reinvent himself yet again. The crucial problem isn’t creating new jobs.

Cyberwarfare Cyberwarfare involves the battlespace use and targeting of computers and networks in warfare. It involves both offensive and defensive operations pertaining to the threat of cyberattacks, espionage and sabotage. There has been controversy over whether such operations can duly be called "war". Nevertheless, nations have been developing their capabilities and engaged in cyberwarfare either as an aggressor, defendant, or both. Definition[edit] Cyberwarfare has been defined as "actions by a nation-state to penetrate another nation's computers or networks for the purposes of causing damage or disruption",[1]:6 but other definitions also include non-state actors, such as terrorist groups, companies, political or ideological extremist groups, hacktivists, and transnational criminal organizations.[2][3][4][5][6]
