Lettres Grandes with Clémence Poésy As the sun sets on the banks of the Seine, Clémence Poésy settles into a vintage ride to read a love letter written by poet Paul Éluard, to his first wife, Gala, on Friday May 15, 1936, several years after she had left him for Salvador Dalí. Poésy takes on the tone of a modern-day Gala, a self-assured seductress, who was famously a muse to a whole slew of Surrealist artists and writers, including Max Ernst and André Breton. Reading the letter with a hint of regret, she stands firm by her decision to trade in the poet for the painter. Directed by Elsa Klughertz, the intention was to convey the sense of undated emotion that is tangible in personal letters.

Chris Jordan Exploring around our country's shipping ports and industrial yards, where the accumulated detritus of our consumption is exposed to view like eroded layers in the Grand Canyon, I find evidence of a slow-motion apocalypse in progress. I am appalled by these scenes, and yet also drawn into them with awe and fascination. The immense scale of our consumption can appear desolate, macabre, oddly comical and ironic, and even darkly beautiful; for me its consistent feature is a staggering complexity. The pervasiveness of our consumerism holds a seductive kind of mob mentality. Collectively we are committing a vast and unsustainable act of taking, but we each are anonymous and no one is in charge or accountable for the consequences. I fear that in this process we are doing irreparable harm to our planet and to our individual spirits.

Get me a LandJob! - Welcome to Fire After long contemplation about my life purpose, I settled on fire as the main forestry aspect I want to devote my energy to. I started off with grad school interviews for a M.S. degree with a focus in fire ecology. The number one question that came up: “So... do you have any fire experience?” Seeing as I didn’t find my calling until three semesters before I graduated, the answer was unfortunately “no”. I had already started applying to numerous fire jobs, in every state I deemed “livable” (everywhere from CA to as far over as the Dakotas). Considering the suggestions I was given, I was able to refine my application to areas with higher probability of employment for first time fire experience.

A Land for Dreamers An image that went viral on the web is “Go Your Own Road” by Erik Johansson. Since 2009, this Swedish artist has become internationally acclaimed with a large following on Facebook, commissioned by companies like Adobe, Microsoft and Google, and invited to speak at TEDSalon in London. Johansson is more inspired by painters like Dali and Magritte, and of course graphic illusionist Escher, than actual photographers. Because his interest is making the picture, not just capturing it. Johansson carefully plans each concept, which can take months as he selects locations to photograph. Those pictures then go through a digital montage process via Photoshop, with plenty of layers to create a single, realistic looking shot. Agnieszka Rayss I photographed a process without which life Warsaw would be impossible. We draw water from beneath the Vistula and return it to the river. These places are seldom seen. Mysterious places, at the heart of the city, but un-urban, by the river, but hidden beyond thick growth.

Consider some of the following statistics: Disney-Themed Celebrity Portraits By Annie Leibovitz World-renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz has published the latest in her long-time series of Disney-themed celebrity portraits. Jessica Chastain, who has starred in films like Zero Dark Thirty and The Help, poses as the fiery red-headed Meridia from Disney’s Brave. Chastain joins a star-studded list of Hollywood colleagues that have posed as characters from classic Disney movies. Russel Brand as Captain Hook from Peter Pan, Beyonce as Alice from Alice in Wonderland, and Michael Phelps as a merman in The Little Mermaid are just a few of the other awesome Disney portraits in the series. Leibovitz, who is recognized around the world for her powerful and intimate celebrity portraits, began the series after being approached by the Walt Disney Company with the idea of doing the series to promote their “Year Of A Million Dreams” promotion.

Jane Long - Dancing with Costica The Dancing with Costica series initially came about when I decided to brush up on my retouching skills. After finding the Costica Acsinte Archive on Flickr I became fascinated with the images and their subjects. I wanted to bring them to life. But more than that I wanted to give them a story. I wanted there to be some ambiguity about the images. Karry Skarbakka’s Free falling Self Shot Photography Kerry Skarbakka tried to capture himself when he was in peril in his self shot photographs titled, “The Struggle to Right Oneself. He captured when he was falling from stairs, trees, train lines etc.He is inspired by Martin Heidegger as the later said that human beings go through perpetual falls. He used special gears at the time of photo-shoot but the shots look so real that it convinces even the best of people that it is real and happening.

Start Your Day in 33 Different Ways Mornings are underrated. I consider them fundamental for the whole diurnal experience. What you do in the very first moments of your morning will fundamentally and inexorably shape your entire day. Photography: Hassan Hajjaj's photographs of the biker girl gangs of Marrakech Hassan Hajjaj: Kesh Angels These vibrant portraits by Hassan Hajjaj are taken from his ongoing Kesh Angels project in which Moroccan ladies dressed in veils and djellabah pose confidently on motorcycles, dripping in gaudy designer labels. Fusing aspects of traditional African studio photography with the glossy glamour of a high-fashion shoot, the images masterfully subvert preconceived notions of Arabic women.

Julian Birbrajer It has been a life long obsession to explore language and time by means of photography. Often I find myself creating new work exploiting the specific context of a newly discovered place through my wide-angle lens. The sources of inspiration are generally words and concepts, and often, in a physical sense, more often than not, flea markets and cemeteries. I have chosen, mostly in order to create a general label for my work, the term ”Photolinguistics”.
