How dinosaurs evolved into birds Birds that fill the world's skies today are living dinosaurs, reminders of a distant and strange past. Decades of major new discoveries and studies have convinced researchers that there is a direct link between modern bird species and theropod dinosaurs. Once dinosaurs were thought of as scaled-up lizards, but now they are regarded very differently. Paul says, 'Dinosaurs have always sparked the imagination, but our views on these spectacular animals have changed continually through time.

How to resurrect a sea dragon A long-dead sea dragon and Jurassic mystery, Rhomaleosaurus cramptoni is known only from bones preserved for millions of years in mudstone rocks. It roamed seas and lagoons at the same time as dinosaurs dominated the land, and died out more than 180 million years ago. But thanks to the latest technology, viewers anywhere in the world can get a close look at the ancient reptile. Palaeontologists have revived the animal for Rhomaleosaurus: Back to Life in Virtual Reality, an experience created by the Museum in collaboration with Google Arts & Culture. Rhomaleosaurus is brought back to life as water floods the Museum, allowing the huge reptile to swim alongside the virtual visitor. Angela Milner, a Scientific Associate at the Museum, was one of the scientists who created the experience.

Liverpool and the Beatles I'm pretty sure you've already heard about Liverpool. I love this city because I spent a weekend there when I was younger. On Mount Everest, Seeking Biogas Energy in a Mountain of Waste Nestled in the shadow of the world's tallest mountain, the tiny village of Gorak Shep has a very messy problem. The Sherpa community literally is running out of space to put human feces from the Everest, Pomori, Lhoste, and Nupste base camps. Each year, porters haul more than 12 metric tons of excrement down the mountains and dump it into open pits at Gorak Shep. A spring 2012 National Science Foundation (NSF) survey found contamination of one of the two major sources that supply water at Gorak Shep. A volunteer group of Seattle-based engineers is working on an innovative solution to the problem, one that also will provide a big energy benefit. Earlier this month, they completed a design for a biogas reactor to convert climbers' feces into methane gas to serve as a cooking fuel for the Sherpa villagers.

Biofuels, from ethanol to biodiesel, facts and information Biofuels have been around as long as cars have. At the start of the 20th century, Henry Ford planned to fuel his Model Ts with ethanol, and early diesel engines were shown to run on peanut oil. But discoveries of huge petroleum deposits kept gasoline and diesel cheap for decades, and biofuels were largely forgotten. However, with the recent rise in oil prices, along with growing concern about global warming caused by carbon dioxide emissions, biofuels have been regaining popularity.
