Simple, blog-aware, static sites One of Jekyll’s best aspects is that it is “blog aware”. What does this mean, exactly? Well, simply put, it means that blogging is baked into Jekyll’s functionality. If you write articles and publish them online, you can publish and maintain a blog simply by managing a folder of text-files on your computer. Compared to the hassle of configuring and maintaining databases and web-based CMS systems, this will be a welcome change!

Ignoring files From time to time, there are files you don't want Git to check in to GitHub. There are a few ways to tell Git which files to ignore. Create a local .gitignore If you create a file in your repository named .gitignore, Git uses it to determine which files and directories to ignore, before you make a commit. Mindful documentation for (web) components and frameworks Be precise and make it short Decorating prose with fancy words is tempting but these extra words generate noise, detrimental to our message. Daring Fireball: Markdown Download Markdown 1.0.1 (18 KB) — 17 Dec 2004 Introduction software.intel by Kyle Simpson You may be starting to notice a trend from my recent articles here on HTML5 Hub. I’m a JS snob by trade, but by association I have to deal with my fair share of CSS issues. So, as an “outsider” looking in, I’m taking this opportunity to highlight some of the big “pain points” that CSS causes for various basic tasks in web dev. It’s not really intended as a criticism of the technology per se, but more a rallying cry to ask for standard solutions which remove our hacks. More Text, Less Text

Registering GitHub Account in PhpStorm To retrieve data from GitHub repositories and share your projects in right from PhpStorm, you need to register your GitHub account credentials in the IDE. You can also create an account on the GitHub free hosting without leaving PhpStorm. In either case, PhpStorm remembers the login and password so you do not need to specify them while retrieving or uploading data. To register GitHub account credentials Open the IDE Settings and click GitHub. Simple, blog-aware, static sites Sites built using Jekyll can be deployed in a large number of ways due to the static nature of the generated output. A few of the most common deployment techniques are described below. Web hosting providers (FTP) Just about any traditional web hosting provider will let you upload files to their servers over FTP. To upload a Jekyll site to a web host using FTP, simply run the jekyll build command and copy the contents of the generated _site folder to the root folder of your hosting account. This is most likely to be the httpdocs or public_html folder on most hosting providers.

Handling Failed HTTP Responses With fetch() Quiz: What does this call to the web’s new fetch() API do? fetch(" .then(function() { console.log("ok"); }).catch(function() { console.log("error"); }); If you’re like me, you might assume this code logs “error” when run—but it actually logs “ok”. Facebook Open Graph META Tags It's no secret that Facebook has become a major traffic driver for all types of websites. Nowadays even large corporations steer consumers toward their Facebook pages instead of the corporate websites directly. And of course there are Facebook "Like" and "Recommend" widgets on every website. One problem I've always found with sharing URLs on Facebook is that you often have no control over the image and description text that accompany the URL. Had I known about Facebook Open Graph API, I would've known the solution to that problem. Facebook's Open Graph protocol allows for web developers to turn their websites into Facebook "graph" objects, allowing a certain level of customization over how information is carried over from a non-Facebook website to Facebook when a page is "recommended", "liked", or just generally shared.
