Color is a great tool for grabbing the attention of users, providing visual interest and impact and creating contrast for readability. Color is also at the center of many design trends, including flat and material styles. But can you go wrong with color? Are there hues or combinations that you should shy away from? Neons Neon colors can be fun, spunky and add a lot of pop to a design. The problem with neons is that they are too bright to read with ease and cause problems paired with dark or light backgrounds. Try this instead: Remove some of the brightness from neon colors so they have a darker, more subtle look on screens. Orange You Glad does a great job incorporating “almost” neon colors into the design of their homepage in a number of ways. “Vibrating” Colors When highly saturated colors are paired, they create a “vibrating effect” where colors seem to almost move in a blurring or glowing motion. A classic example is pairing bright red and green.

2014 Logo Trends on LogoLounge.com If home is our first place, and work is our second place, then mobile screens have definitely become our third place. Smart phone use has increased from 21 percent in 2010 to more than 63 percent today, and with 83 percent of all Americans online regularly, that percentage of mobile users is bound to keep edging up. The fact that so many people now view the world through a window the size of a business card has spelled an inevitable change in logo design. It used to be that minute favicons had to be kept extremely simple: Now, as a rule, logos must be as well, but that doesn’t mean boring. Designers continue to push back and evolve the meaning of “simple.” That logos have to be scalable has always been understood. Of course, there’s a limit to this flattening out and removal of information. Designers have responded to the mobile screen’s harsh requisites in a variety of ways, many of which are detailed in this year’s Trend Report. As with all things, it’s about balance. Installation Decorates Hotel Room With An Interactive Wooden Skyline It's often the case that you'll see a work of art in an exhibition space and spend a good half hour or so in its company, but it's not often that you'll spend the night with it. But that's what you'll be doing with a new work from French collective Architectural Visual Exciters called SKÖ. The piece sees the group redesigning a guest room at the Au Vieux Panier hotel in Marseille—which features various rooms decorated by different graphic designers and artists—into an immersive and interactive rest space. Mixing high and low tech it uses wood, which hovers over the bed, to project patterns onto so you can lie back and have your very own light show—and don't be too worried about the wood falling on top of you either, it's all part of the experience. "The troglodytic morphology of the room imposes a total confidence in the artist since the ton of wood hanging directly above you initially launches you into a state of claustrophobia." the group says.
