Aerial Sports 3dpBurner. 3D printed laser cutter/engraver by villamany NOTE: The files contained here are for 3dpBurner first version. Check for the newer 3dpBurner2. 3dpBurner is an open source laser cutter/engraver. It is created with the same RepRap concept, using 3D printed parts and some easy to find "vitamins" (not printed hadware). I tried to do it as cheap as possible, by using cheap electronics and a "low power" laser (a laser diode). You can check for more details. NOTE: It is imperative you get the apropiate protection for your eyes and prevent the toxic fumes released by the most of materials. You can see some works here: Sep/17/2015: NEW VERSION UPDATE!. Apr/27/2015: After some months and many tests, the 3dpBurner has been proved to be stable and rock solid, producing very good results, so the design is considered full finished now :) Jun/18/2015: Laser Driver bumper is for the WalyePower model laser driver. DIY Projects, Communities and Cultures We adopt the Wikipedia definition of DIY (Do It Yourself) as any creation, modification or repair of objects without the aid of paid professionals. DIY practices predate recorded history as human survival often relied on the ability to repair and repurpose tools and materials. Over the past few decades, new materials and sharing mechanisms have led to a wider adoption of DIY culture. One of the earliest “modern era” DIY communities formed among amateur radio hobbyists in the 1920’s. Starting in the 1970's, enthusiasts created 'zines' to express the punk aesthetic. Thousands of DIY communities exist today, varying in size, organization and project structure. We focus on a subset of these as a sample of the diverse materials, practices and sharing mechanisms among DIY practitioners.

World Stone Skimming Championships Fab lab Small-scale workshop for digital fabrication A fab lab (fabrication laboratory) is a small-scale workshop offering (personal) digital fabrication.[1][2] A fab lab is typically equipped with an array of flexible computer-controlled tools that cover several different length scales and various materials, with the aim to make "almost anything".[3] This includes technology-enabled products generally perceived as limited to mass production. While fab labs have yet to compete with mass production and its associated economies of scale in fabricating widely distributed products, they have already shown the potential to empower individuals to create smart devices for themselves. The fab lab movement is closely aligned with the DIY movement, open-source hardware, maker culture, and the free and open-source movement, and shares philosophy as well as technology with them. History[edit] Vigyan Ashram in India was the first fab lab to be set up outside MIT. Popular equipment and projects[edit] FabFi[edit]

Why the Maker Movement Matters: Part 1, the Tools Revolution In the years when I was visiting and learning about factories in China, my dominant emotion was, I can’t wait to tell people about this! Of course everyone “knew,” in general terms, about the rise of Chinese manufacturing and the country’s role as workshop-to-the-world. But the experience of seeing the factories that turned out computers and smart phones and everything else was so different from hearing about “low-wage Chinese sweatshops” that I thought, people really have no idea. Sure, low wages and lax-to-nonexistent regulatory and environmental standards were big advantages. And one more underappreciated element was essential: the new tools of connectivity and logistics that allowed a customer in Chicago to shop online for a smartphone, and have the customized specs conveyed instantly to a production line in China, where the order would be put together and then taken to the airport in Hong Kong for airfreight back to the U.S. The Background New Tools, New Firms Tools for Making
