Cascading Style Sheets Level 2 Revision 1 (CSS 2.1) Specification This specification defines Cascading Style Sheets, level 2 revision 1 (CSS 2.1). CSS 2.1 is a style sheet language that allows authors and users to attach style (e.g., fonts and spacing) to structured documents (e.g., HTML documents and XML applications). By separating the presentation style of documents from the content of documents, CSS 2.1 simplifies Web authoring and site maintenance. CSS 2.1 builds on CSS2 [CSS2] which builds on CSS1 [CSS1]. It supports media-specific style sheets so that authors may tailor the presentation of their documents to visual browsers, aural devices, printers, braille devices, handheld devices, etc. It also supports content positioning, table layout, features for internationalization and some properties related to user interface.

Google does not use the keywords meta tag in web ranking Recently we received some questions about how Google uses (or more accurately, doesn't use) the "keywords" meta tag in ranking web search results. Suppose you have two website owners, Alice and Bob. Alice runs a company called AliceCo and Bob runs BobCo. One day while looking at Bob's site, Alice notices that Bob has copied some of the words that she uses in her "keywords" meta tag.

Blog Archives - Marie Kuter Random with Axure Axure allows you to create and use variables in a pretty advanced way. I recently used the Math.random() function a lot, and thought it could be useful (at least for me) to write the good random formulas somewhere, for later reference. It is probably very easy for programmers, but this is not my case, and I don’t want to lose time trying to figure out which is the right way of writing the formulas each time. So here it is! Why do we need a random on Axure?

Hover.css - A collection of CSS3 powered hover effects All Hover.css effects make use of a single element (with the help of some pseudo-elements where necessary), are self contained so you can easily copy and paste them, and come in CSS, Sass, and LESS flavours. For best results, hover effects use a couple of "hacks" (undesirable but usually necessary lines of code). For more information on these hacks and whether you need them, please read the FAQ. Many effects use CSS3 features such as transitions, transforms and animations.

Handlebars.js: Minimal Templating on Steroids Let's define a simple block helper that simply invokes the block as though no helper existed. {{title}} {{#noop}}{{body}}{{/noop}} The noop helper will receive an options hash. This options hash contains a function (options.fn) that behaves like a normal compiled Handlebars template. Specifically, the function will take a context and return a String. Handlebars.registerHelper('noop', function(options) { return options.fn(this); });

Reading local files in JavaScript Introduction HTML5 finally provides a standard way to interact with local files, via the File API specification. As example of its capabilities, the File API could be used to create a thumbnail preview of images as they're being sent to the server, or allow an app to save a file reference while the user is offline. Additionally, you could use client-side logic to verify an upload's mimetype matches its file extension or restrict the size of an upload. The spec provides several interfaces for accessing files from a 'local' filesystem:

The Mega Menu - An Overview Dropdown ‘mega menus’ (otherwise known as ‘meta menus’ or ‘mega dropdowns’) are becoming increasingly common in the online world, particularly on sites with broad and deep information architecture. When used in place of a normal drop down, mega menus allow the designer to organize the menu links into categories, present links in columns and surface specific relevant content links.
