How to Draw Celtic Knotwork The old method These instructions can be followed with pencil and paper or using any computer based drawing or drafting program. I have used Corel Draw, Adobe Illustrator, and AutoDesk AutoCad for various projects, but my favorite is Corel Draw. In the tutorial below I show the method that I use in Corel Draw; however, I have deliberately left out program-specific instructions. I did this to make the instructions more broadly applicable to work with as many drawing and CAD programs as possible. This method, like most, begins with drawing the grid. The second step is to draw in the diagonals. Next draw in the connecting curves that will become the edges of the knotwork. This is the step that most people have the most trouble with: deciding where to "Break the Grid". So, where do we put these spaces to make an aesthetically pleasing design? Here is how I do it:: I CHEAT! 1). Or 2). But back to the tutorial. Follow the diagonals until you come to a red line. We're almost there!

The original print for the humorous illustration above – The First Smoke – (Library of Congress, Prints & Photographs Division, [reproduction number LC-USZ62-47899 ) is from the US Library of Congress, and is one of many public domain images archived in the Popular Graphic Arts Collection at the LOC. Flickr is a good source for finding illustrations offered as public domain images or drawings licensed for commercial use. Some offerings at Flickr are new pictures; others are scanned images from old engravings and handbills. Check the public domain archives of government web sites and photo galleries to find digitized copies of historic pictures in printable formats.

Refraction Refraction of a wave occurs when a wave changes direction upon moving from one medium to another. One example of refraction is a prism. Diffraction Diffraction occurs when a wave stays in the same medium, but bends around an obstacle. An example of a diffracted wave passing through a small opening. Polarization Polarization is when a wave oscillates in one particular direction. In this picture the unpolarized light wave travels through the filter and then is polarized along a single plane. Det är så tråkigt att bara göra grunder först - oinspirerande att inte veta vad de är till för! Vått-i-vått: Genom att måla med ganska våt färg på vått papper får man en diffus kant. Vått-på-tort: Genom att ha ganska mycket färg och vatten, luta papperet något och jobba snabbt uppifrån och ned utan att gå över målade ytor igen får man en jämn lavering. Torrpensel: genom att ha ganska torr pensel och dra den lätt över pappret, antingen med spetsen eller sidan så får man en genombruten effekt som är användbar tex för glitter på vatten. Gradering: en graderad lavering får man på samma sätt som en jämn, men genom att tillsätta mer och mer vatten till penseln för varje penseldrag.
