JR

JR
JR has created "Infiltrating art". During his collage activities, the local communities take part in the act of artistic creation, with no stage separating actors from spectators. The anonymity of JR and the absence of any explanation accompanying his huge portraits leave him with a free space in which issues and actors, performers and passers-by meet, forming the essence of his work. In 2011 he received the Ted Prize, giving him the opportunity to make a vow to change the world. In 2014, working with the New York City Ballet, he used the language of dance to tell his version of the riots in the Clichy-Montfermeil district. At the same time, JR worked in the abandoned hospital of Ellis Island, an important place in the history of immigration – and made the short film ELLIS, with Robert De Niro. In 2016, JR was invited by the Louvre, whose pyramid he made disappear the with the help of an astonishing anamorphosis. Related:  AUTOPORTRAIT

John Coplans. Self-Portrait (Feet Frontal). 1984 This is a black and white photograph of the artist’s feet, greatly enlarged. Touching at the joints of the big toes, the feet are flexed so that the toes remain on the ground while the heels are raised. The image is cropped at the ankles to emphasise the narrow space between the arches of the feet. At the bottom of the photograph, two toes on one foot and three on another have been included within the image. Born in London, Coplans initially trained as a painter and moved to the United States in 1960, the year after seeing an inspirational exhibition of Abstract Expressionist painting, The New American Painting, at the Tate Gallery. Coplans uses a video camera and monitor to view parts of his body. Self Portrait (Feet Frontal) was produced in an edition of three, of which this is additional artist’s proof. Graffiti Art Magazine Street Art, art with impact! EDITO #70 | May-June 2023 At a time when water usage restrictions have never been applied so early in the season, the questioning of climate change raised by Kurar in Surbanisation on the cover of GraffitiART #70 is extremely topical.Kurar’s commitment conveys urgent messages, through stencils, spray cans and brushes, about the environment, ethics, and social issues… For Petite Poissonne, her talent for catchphrases heightens the impact of her aphorisms. In a graphic world all his own, Shaka deconstructs the human figure in style that is a blend of hyperrealism and anthropology. Long live Street Art!

Urban exploration Three urban explorers in the entrance of a technical gallery during construction at Paris, France. Urban exploration (often shortened as urbex or UE) is the exploration of man-made structures, usually abandoned ruins or not usually seen components of the man-made environment. Photography and historical interest/documentation are heavily featured in the hobby and, although it may sometimes involve trespassing onto private property, this is not always the case and is of innocent intention.[1] Urban exploration is also commonly referred to as infiltration, although some people consider infiltration to be more closely associated with the exploration of active or inhabited sites. It may also be referred to as draining (when exploring drains), urban spelunking, urban rock climbing, urban caving, or building hacking. The nature of this activity presents various risks, including both physical danger and the possibility of arrest and punishment. Targets of exploration[edit] Abandonments[edit]

Norman Rockwell ( ) Triple autoportrait . 1960 Triple Self-Portrait, 1960 Humor and humility were essential aspects of Norman Rockwell's character, so when asked to do a self-portrait that would announce the first of eight excerpts of his autobiography, the results were lighthearted and somewhat self-deprecating. Rockwell was a stickler for neatness, but here he has scattered matchsticks, paint tubes, and brushes over the studio floor. The glass of Coca-Cola, Rockwell's usual afternoon pick-me-up, looks as if it will tip over at any moment. Other discrepancies can be explained away. He has traded his usual Windsor chair for a stool (easier to see more of him?) As Rockwell's assistant, Louie Lamone, recalls, paint rags and pipe ashes sometimes conspired to ignite small fires in Rockwell's brass bucket, so the wisp of smoke in the painting rings true. The four self-portraits on his canvas - Albrecht Durer, Rembrandt van Rijn, Pablo Picasso, and Vincent Van Gogh - are his references. Triple Self-Portrait, Norman Rockwell, 1960.
