Arqueología en mi jardín: La entrada al anfiteatro Flavio. Los números sobre las arcadas. Seguro que si has visitado el anfiteatro Flavio, el llamado Coliseo, en Roma, te has fijado que sobre algunas de las arcadas de la fachada exterior hay unos números en grafía romana, pero ¿sabes qué son y que significan? El Coliseo tenía cabida para unos 50.000 espectadores (aproximadamente). Algunos investigadores han calculado que unos 45.000 sentados y otros 5.000 en la parte superior que estarían de pie. A todas estas personas había que darles acceso al edificio de forma ordenada para evitar accidentes y además para hacerlo lo más cómodo y rápido posible. Estos números ayudaban a ello. El anfiteatro Flavio tenía a nivel de suelo 70 arcadas, numeradas del I al LXVI, las cuatro situadas en los ejes no tenían numeración, estos accesos estaban prohibidos al público. Unlike any event before it, the Revolution drew its strength from ideology — an ideology that turned on the belief that France had created a radical break with its monarchical past, and would now radically re-organize itself along egalitarian and democratic lines. To drive this message home, the revolutionaries produced thousands of pamphlets and political works of art. What’s more, they created a new revolutionary calendar and a series of revolutionary festivals that helped give cultural expression to the idea that France had entered a new political age. More than a century later, the Russian revolutionaries would use the French blueprint and all cultural tools at their disposal to promote its Marxist ideals. Científicos detectan 'tinta invisible' en un antiguo papiro egipcio Durante más de un siglo, en el Museo Egipcio de Berlín se han mantenido almacenadas numerosas cajas de metal y de cartón, cuyo contenido fue excavado entre 1906 y 1908 por el arqueólogo Otto Rubensohn en Elefantina, isla del río Nilo, al sur de Egipto. El 80 % de los textos sobre papiro que allí se hallan aún no ha sido estudiado, ya que resulta casi imposible hacerlo mediante métodos convencionales. Ahora, especialistas de esa institución museística, así como de la Universidad de Berlín y del centro de investigación Helmholtz-Zentrum, estudiaron un pequeño trozo de papiro de esa colección, cuya característica más notable era una suerte de parche aparentemente en blanco. Hace miles de años, los egipcios enrollaban o doblaban cuidadosamente los papiros para que ocuparan el menor espacio posible. Para leerlos tenían que desplegarlos con el mismo cuidado. Entonces la pareja formada, por Dalí y el autor de Alicia en el país de las maravillas y matemático Lewis Carroll, parece una buena combinación, dos hombres cuyas mentes viajaban más allá de los confines cursis de un cuento normal.
