ABC alphabet and Phonemic Awareness Practice for Kindergarten, ESL (EFL), Preschool & Special Education

ABC alphabet and Phonemic Awareness Practice for Kindergarten, ESL (EFL), Preschool & Special Education
Starfall's ABC section teaches letter-sound relationships by providing a kid-friendly navigation system that explicitly focuses on each letter of the alphabet. This explicit instruction is most effective in kindergarten and for ESL and special education students when it is combined with exercises in phonemic awareness. When learning to read, students who understand the basic sounds of the language can apply letter-sound relations with greater ease. It is also essential to practice writing in kindergarten because it helps to reinforce phonics and develop reading skills. Starfall's free ABC printouts provide practice in writing and have suggestions for phonemic awareness activities to assist parents and teachers. After students learn the predictable relationship between the sounds (phonemes) and letter combinations (graphemes), they should be introduced to regular three letter consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) words.

Math Learning Games For Kids Cool online games are a fun and interesting way for kids to learn about mathematics. Mastering math facts is essential for students as they learn more arithmetic. Basic math is essential for long multiplication and division as well as for triple-digit addition and subtraction. Free math fact games and flashcards are a great way for students to practice their math facts and improve their math skills. Free online math fact activities can be more fun and more effective (and more “green”) than math printable worksheets. I love Starfall…this is one of my favorite websites. We use it in our classroom all the time. It crosses a variety of reading abilities. This particular activity is the very basic of phonics. It allows the student to see the letter and hear its sound. It is very interactive, and young students can work independently. by mandimedley Jun 29

This site allows the very basic exploration of the alphabetic principle. This can be used for children from kinder to special education. It shows that the letter is represented by a big and small letter and that these letters are associated with a specific sound. This is the fundamental step to introduce any one to reading. by jcampolo Jun 9

Students can work on phonics in this website, they can have fun while learning the sounds and letters. by flowerific Mar 11

My students really enjoy using Starfall. It is colorful and interactive. It also provides great phonics practice, especially with the alphabet section. If i have students who are struggling with letter recognition or letter-sound conncetion, I let them play around on this site. It shows them the letter, tells them its name, the sound and then shows them a picture of an object that goes with that letter. There are also other activities on this site, such as the pumpkin and snowman games, that show the students a letter, and then a song comes on to help them remember that letter and the sound or objects that go with it. by kham1 Nov 5
