Watch this video to see how a group of students, with help from the BBC's Sophie Long, go about it and read the advice below. How to make a video news report What's the story? Before starting any news report, the most important point to remember is: Keep it simple. Planning As with any story, you must plan how you want to start your report and how you want to end it. When planning your report, you will need to consider the five Ws. What - What is the story? Why - Why is the story important to your audience? Who - Who is involved? Where - Where is the story happening, and where is the best place to film? When - Has the story already happened, or is it about to happen? By planning each of these points in detail, you'll know exactly what you need to film, where and when. Filming Once you have done all your planning, then you can start to film. And no, I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel. Before the game: make a list of 15 questions that you’d ask your students. E.g. if you’d like to focus on tense review, these tense review questions could be handy Alternatively, get your students to come up with questions they would ask someone they meet for the first time/haven’t seen for ages/ at the interview/ etc. – Specify there should be no ‘yes-no’ questions. Step 1. Hand out a sheet of A4 paper to each student. Step 2. Ask your students to write down an answer to the first question in any square. Step 3. Happy teaching! En kollega startade upp sitt försteläraruppdrag med inriktning ”språkutvecklande arbetssätt”, vi såg på skolverkets film ”Språk – och kunskapsutvecklande arbete” som en upptakt till fortsatta diskussioner kring hur vi arbetar på vår skola. Vi diskuterade bl.a. hur elevernas språkliga förmågor ser ut hos eleverna, vilka förväntningar vi har på eleverna och hur vi kan undvika att missta oss på elevernas språkförmåga då de t.ex. trots allt har ett rikt vardagsspråk. Vi funderade även över hur vi, i våra olika verksamheter såsom fritids, förskoleklass och skola arbetar språkutvecklande med våra elever och gav praktiska exempel utifrån de olika verksamheterna. Efter filmen, de efterföljande diskussionerna och en kaffepaus var det min tur att på ett mer praktiskt sätt visa hur du kan arbeta språkutvecklande med hjälp av Storybird. Having Fun With Tearable Sentences I really enjoy activities that encourage students to stand up and move about the classroom. I like using information sharing activities, running dictations and anything that gets the students to mingle and talk to each other. This activity was a new one for me, even though Peter describes it as: “… a pretty common feature of our training.” It just goes to show that everyone’s experience is a little different. That is what is great about blogging and reading other people blogs, you gain an insight into their experience and can take away new activity ideas. So, I have a new idea to try out for the week that I knew could be adapted to different classes and different levels. Click on Tearable Sentences to download the template.
