9 Amazing Augmented Reality Apps for Teaching and Learning

9 Amazing Augmented Reality Apps for Teaching and Learning
Augmented reality (AR) has evolved in recent years and its application in classrooms is limitless. Educators don’t need to feel overwhelmed when trying to introduce AR in their classroom because there are many great apps that don’t require a lot of knowledge in the field. There are useful apps for every subject and there are also apps that when a teacher is ready they can create their own AR targets. Augmented reality works well in schools because it brings close to real life experiences to the classrooms. It’s fascinating to see the faces of students when they have the opportunity to explore space, the human body, cells or chemistry elements. You appreciate how eager and engaged they become with some simple AR apps. If you would like to learn more about integrating Augmented Reality in your classroom don’t miss our presentation at the Teaching and Learning with the iPad conference in Raleigh, North Carolina. Here are 9 cool AR apps you may want to try in your classroom: Have fun! Related:  VR / AR / AISCIENCES

Samsung and Facebook's Oculus sets launch for Gear VR headset in November for $99 HOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- Virtual reality is about to become very real. Smartphone giant Samsung and Facebook subsidiary Oculus VR will launch the first virtual reality headset widely available to consumers in November. The headset, called the Gear VR, will cost $99 and work with mobile devices, including Samsung's lineup of phones from this year such as the newly released Note 5 and Galaxy S6. "With mobile VR, you only need a great mobile game device and a smartphone," said Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe, speaking at the company's developer conference here. The launch marks an inflection point for the nascent VR industry. Still, the potential for VR, which places users in a computer-generated world, has attracted many of the tech industry's largest companies. "VR is the next platform where anyone can create and experience anything," said Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, speaking at the event. Oculus isn't the only company building VR devices. A long time coming

Contenu inaccessible - Les animations des Fondamentaux Réseau Canopé Virtual Reality Is a Bubble — No, Not That Type of Bubble The stuff that makes virtual reality video games different from other types of games must be protected at all costs. That’s the word from Schell Games CEO Jesse Schell, a longtime VR game designer and academic who spoke today at Facebook’s virtual reality developer conference, Oculus Connect. He stressed that game makers will have to give up a lot of the techniques to which they’ve become accustomed. “If you’ve come to VR because you just want to imitate the games you’ve been playing for the last 20 goddamn years, get the hell out of here,” Schell said. The secret sauce of virtual reality is presence, the feeling of being in another place. For example, you might play Call of Duty today while lying down on the couch. At the same time, he added, this doesn’t mean everything needs to be realistic. The game’s premise of an incompetent secret agent trying to escape from an overly elaborate trap stemmed from an internal debate at the games company.

10 applications pour Google Cardboard The Google Cardboard virtual reality headset and app platform has been out for a while now. It was introduced at the Google I/O developer conference in June 2014, but it’s not the most well understood technology out there. Perhaps the best way to understand it is to try it out. I’ve been exploring the apps in that collection. And that speaks very well to Google, which is going low-tech in comparison with virtual reality and augmented reality efforts from companies like Facebook (with Oculus Rift) and Microsoft (with HoloLens). From VentureBeat Gaming is in its golden age, and big and small players alike are maneuvering like kings and queens in A Game of Thrones. If you haven’t gotten yourself a Cardboard headset, you can order one for around $20 here or build your own using Google’s instructions (ZIP file). Now, here are a few apps to check out first. 1) Roller Coaster VR This has got to be your first Cardboard experience. 2) Tilt Brush Gallery 3) Seene 4) Lamper 5) Stereogram 6) Beaturret VR

How Do You Tell a Story in Virtual Reality? There’s a lot we still don’t know about the “Wild West” of virtual reality, but as one developer recently told me, it is good at “capturing moments of wonder and sadness.” Coming face to face with a giant but harmless animal? Wonderful. Gaining empathy for a far-off country hit by natural disaster? Sadness. A lot of VR content is based around these moments, and is accordingly labeled as an “experience.” “We’re seeing lots of impressive pieces, but we weren’t seeing a lot of narrative entertainment,” Pavr co-founder Mike Ashton said in an interview with Re/code. Pavr’s first two videos are comedies: “Teleportaled,” a sci-fi short about a mysterious device found in a warehouse, and “Passport to Adventure With Amanda Lund,” a mock travel video. One of the biggest challenges in virtual reality filmmaking is that, unlike normal filmmaking, there is no “frame.”
