New Words in The Oxford Dictionary ……………….Manspreading!………………… Manspreading? Butt dialing? The Oxford Dictionary has added 1000 new words to its online dictionary in the latest quarterly update. The Oxford Dictionary – Contains informal and slang words that are common enough to be included. The Oxford English Dictionary – Contains new words, but not those considered slang. Here are some of the highlights of new words added to the Oxford Dictionary: Manspreading – This word was coined by commuters and refers to men on public transportation who sit with their legs wide apart, thus taking up more than one seat so no one can sit in the surrounding seats. Butt dialing – Accidentally calling someone with your cell phone in a rear pocket (possibly while you are manspreading). Awesomesauce – Great or wonderful. Beer o’clock and wine o’clock – No, I didn’t make this up. Cat cafe – I had never heard of this before my daughter happened to tell me about it a few days ago. Fat-shame – To humiliate someone by making fun of their size.

Ny avhandling kan hjälpa lärare ge rätt feedback - Karolinska Institutet Konkret beröm som ”du valde rätt” fungerar bättre i en lärandemiljö än att säga ”du är smart”. Det är en av många slutsatser som presenteras i en ny doktorsavhandling från Karolinska Institutet, som undersökt hur olika typer av feedback påverkar prestationen samt hur elevernas attityd påverkar motivationen att slutföra uppgifter. Lagom till skolstarten presenterar Alva Appelgren sin avhandling som kan hjälpa lärare att ge bättre feedback till elever och öka deras motivation att slutföra uppgifter i större utsträckning. – Vi gjorde studierna både i laboratoriemiljö samt på plats i skolan med elever i mellanstadiet. Syftet var att ta reda på vad det är som motiverar elever och vilken typ av feedback som ger bäst resultat, säger Alva Appelgren. I skolstudien fick eleverna göra övningar som testade deras arbetsminne. Vilken typ av feedback som ger bäst prestationer undersöktes genom att eleverna delades in i grupper som fick olika typer av feedback. Taggar:
Word Study Collections in the Elementary Classroom Posted 07/19/2015 7:57PM | Last Commented 07/19/2015 7:57PM I read Stephen King’s book, On Writing, in 2007 while attending the Pennsylvania Writing and Literature Project’s summer writing institute. One of my fellow attendees mentioned that Stephen King likes to write to heavy music like Metallica and Guns and Roses, which immediately sparked my attention. She said, “There’s more about it in his book, On Writing.” I’m here to discuss words. A study done in 2011 by the Studies & Research Committee of the Massachusetts Reading Association states that, “Effective vocabulary instruction is characterized by deliberate selection of words to be taught and frequent opportunities for students to interact with the words in meaningful contexts. Something we already knew, right? There are tons of ways to teach/collect words. Collecting Words Words come from all subjects, but mostly our vocabulary words come from reading and writing. En kollega berättade om hur hon hade fått höra om vad FEL egentligen betyder. Jag tog med mig uttrycket in i mitt klassrum och direkt kom det till användning. Få extra lärande Med ny energi var uppgiften snart löst, den var inte så svår men det var frustrerande att det var fel. Under veckan har jag flera gånger återkommit till den utvecklande beskrivningen av fel. P.s Tack till fina kollegan som delade med sig av visa ord som hon hade fått sig till del.
