I'm really impressed. did not get a head. the tripod is super solid with legs fully extended and column 1/2 way up---with my ball head it's very close to eye level (i'm 5-11) and it folds up to just shy of 18", weighs 2# & supports 22. dampens vibration very nicely. what it doesn't have is the ability oob to mount the column horizontally. i have another, heavier tripod to do that, although i've never used that functionality. i needed the Feisol for an upcoming trip in which weight and length were critical, and it really fits the bill. shooting with an A850and, among the other lenses, the CZ16-35. the new model has non-rotating legs (i got the last of the discontinued model at a big discount).

The first noticeable difference is the "upside-down" design of this ballhead. Instead of having a ball that rests inside a ball-housing, the entire P1's ball-housing sits on top of the ball. Three small gears surround the ball and apply a uniform, synchronized force around the ball, thus ensuring smooth movement of the installed camera in all axes. Another major difference with the P1 head is the conspicuous absence of a locking knob. Instead of using a lever or knob, you lock down the head by turning the knurled ring, which is positioned between the camera platform and the ball.

The panning system is unconventionally located above the ball, just below the camera mount. Ever since their introduction over forty years ago, the Arca Swiss Monoballs have been at the forefront of quality and performance. Arca-Swiss p0 and p1 review. I've been using my Arca-Swiss p0 for a few weeks now, as it arrived just before Christmas.

Arca-Swiss p0 and p1 review

I've been using it mainly with a Nikon D3s and a 70-200mm f/2.8G II but also with a 1Ds Mark 3 and a variety of lenses. As others have noted, the Arca-Swiss p0 is small, it literally will fit in a jacket pocket. It is roughly the size of a Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 lens. Setup is very easy: screw it on the tripod column (it is threaded for a standard 3/8" stud) and off you go. The top of the SlideFix QR clamp has a small bulls eye level built in that is easily visible if you have a long lens mounted in the SlideFix Clamp but hidden under a camera body if you use the anti-twist body plate (more about the SlideFix system in a minute or three).

The design of the Arca-Swiss p0 and it's larger and heavier weight sister the p1 is counter to most ball heads of my acquaintance save the Novoflex MagicBall. The p0 and p1 are unique in another way as well. Arca-Swiss Monoball P0 with Panning System 801211 B&H Photo. Arca Swiss P0, QS Slidefix 801213 a Read the Questions. The p0 is a revolutionary tripod head design due to it precision, ease of use and its extraordinarily strong, concentric and uniform locking force.

It's called Knobless because the traditional locking knobs have been removed and replaced by an ingenious geared mechanism. The p0 is precise, stylish, light and very strong - a hand of steel in a velvet glove! At first glance... The first thing you notice is that there are no knobs. You can grasp the tripod head from any angle, left or right and block it simply by turning the knurled part. Arca Swiss P0? GeneC wrote in post #11850433 Another thing I didn't like about it.

When you relax tension with the locking ring, it doesn't release immediately, you have to turn it like almost a turn for full release. It releases gradually. The feel of the ring is such that it feels like there are small gears inside, like a planatary gear system. Arca p0. Induro Alloy 8M Tripod AT-313 (Black): Camera & Photo. CT313 - Cat. 471-313. Tripod / Ballhead Advice

Sure, take a look at this. I could show you an equally disastrous Gitzo picture but that doesn't mean that Gitzo makes crap stuff either. It's likely that you get tighter QC and less product variation with higher-end brands like Gitzo and RRS but you can still get lemons too. In general, tripods made by companies like Benro and Feisol can be stable and fit for purpose, whether they last as long as the top brands is not clear yet though. If you're interested in using the tripod for travel get a carbon fiber 4 leg-section type with the anti-rotation locks, they are really worth the extra money. I think many users would recommend the Markins Q3T ballhead for a traveler, but the Acratech seems to have the features you need. You can reduce your costs by buying directly from China. Gitzo, because I wanted a quality tripod I wouldn't need to upgrade again. 3 legs, because it's already a pain to set up and take down tripods, and adding one more set of locks to each leg would increase that 'pain-in-the-assness' that much more. (Plus 3 legs should be more stable). No center column, for maximum stability.

Tripod & head recommendations for D800 [Page 1]: Nikon D4 - D1 / D800 Forum. A few years ago I went to Iceland to shoot for a week with my then brand-new Phase One p45+ back on a Phase 645 AFD body and my old (can't remember what it was but it worked fine with a 5DII) tripod.

I ended up using my M9 after the first two days because the extra pixels, in combination with the rather unrefined shutter of the Phase body, meant that at the aperture ISO combinations I wanted, nothing was ever properly stabilised. I consulted the Medium Format online communities and found that when you are shooting with a lot of pixels, you need: Review: Feisol CT-3442 tripod, Photoclam PC-40NS ballhead.

Hello fellow FM'ers, I'm not sure if reviews exist for these or not, but if so here's another opinion anyways.

Review: Feisol CT-3442 tripod, Photoclam PC-40NS ballhead

I recently purchased a new carbon fiber tripod and ballhead after many months, and months of research online and trying some out in stores. I came to the decision of purchasing a Feisol 3442 carbon fiber tripod, and I went with a Photoclam PC-40NS ballhead. I also bought a used Kirk L-plate for my XTi off eBay. The tripod and ballhead were bought through Really Big Cameras in the good ol' US of A: How I came to deciding this was the right combo was a combination of a few factors.
