Global Innovation Fund. Grand Challenges for Development. The Grand Challenges for Development initiative is rooted in two fundamental beliefs about international development: Science and technology, when applied appropriately, can have transformational effects; and Engaging the world in the quest for solutions is critical to instigating breakthrough progress. Under the Grand Challenges for Development initiative, USAID will focus on defining problems, identifying constraints, and providing evidence based analysis.

Addressing these challenges will require the creation and support of self-perpetuating systems, rather than one-off inventions or interventions. Five Grand Challenges have been launched. Definitions An unsolicited proposal refers to contracts. American Schools and Hospitals Abroad (ASHA) As authorized in the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961, as amended, USAID’s American Schools and Hospitals Abroad (ASHA) program provides assistance to schools, libraries, and medical centers outside the United States that serve as study and demonstration centers for American ideas and practices.

ASHA’s grants help these institutions train future leaders in a wide variety of disciplines, support local and regional infrastructure to foster development, and cultivate positive relationships and mutual understanding among citizens of the United States and other nations. Since its inception in 1947, ASHA has assisted more than 250 institutions in over 70 countries. ASHA currently manages a worldwide portfolio of over 100 awards, making 30-40 new awards each year. These awards support construction, renovation, and the procurement of scientific, medical, and educational equipment. Overview Feed the Future Partnering for Innovation invests in companies and organizations looking to engage smallholder farmers in the global agricultural marketplace. Partnering for Innovation's grants program encourages private sector growth in smallholder markets, increasing smallholder access to technology, information, and resources which will, in turn, increase smallholders' incomes.
