At the Marahau information kiosk, a causeway crosses the estuary. The track rounds Guilbert Point to Apple Tree Bay then passes through beech forest with large kanuka trees. Descend to Anchorage Bay where there is a hut and campsite. Damp forest, clear cold water, tranquil pools, and moss-covered and water-worn marble rock create a fairyland quality. A short path leads through the forest to where the river emerges. There is wheelchair access as far as Crystal Pool (5 min). Other attractions include picnicking, walking and fishing. For a view down to the resurgence, drive up to Hawkes Lookout on Takaka Hill. Getting there The Riwaka Resurgence is 11 km from Riwaka township and 16 km from Motueka. From Riwaka, travel north-west on SH60 toward Takaka. Just before the climb over the Takaka Hill, the road splits in two, with the signposted road to the Resurgence off to the left.

Pinchgut Track The Pinchgut Track zigzags up the steep, bare face of Mt Robert on a well graded track before entering beech forest. After climbing for one and a half hours, you reach the bush edge, where the forest gives way to alpine herbs and shrubs. From here the track continues across the open ridge top and reaches Relax Shelter. To complete the circuit walk, head down to Mt Robert Road on Paddy's Track and walk 500 m along the road back to the car park.

Paddy's Track You can begin the Mount Robert Circuit along Paddy’s Track, which cuts across the mountain’s open face and crosses several scree-filled gullies before climbing to Bushline Hut. To complete the circuit, take the track across the ridge top and return to Mt Robert car park via the Pinchgut Track. Bushline Hut Category: Serviced Facilities: 14 bunk beds, heating, mattresses.
