The Château d' Arcole , run by Véronique Barthe and Philippe Gardère winemakers since over 20 years in the Entre-Deux –Mers, is located in Saint -Sulpice- de- Faleyrens on the prestigious “terroir” of Saint -Emilion . The castle owes its name to the Battle of the Pont of Arcole which opposed Napoleon's army to Austria’s in northern Italy in 1796. The vineyard has the Saint- Emilion Grand Cru denomination and has over 5 hectares planted to 70 % Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon . The virgin soil around the castle has been cultivated in organic farming . The floors are light worked and only natural products are used for the protection of the vineyard.
Yields are limited by natural methods. The modern winery is located in an old farmhouse of the last century where the wine is made in small rotating stainless steel tanks .The tannins and color extraction is soft and slow .
