Such changes can seem large as they are happening, but we doubt the latest declines are much more than normal volatility within longer-term uptrends. … We realize that the fundamental reasons for turning points typically become obvious after the fact. Nonetheless, we are not convinced! “Growth-related data have been fairly positive so far in April, with the March numbers clearly signaling a bounce after what appears to have been largely weather-related weakness … A bounce is already evident in the employment report — in hours worked even more than in payrolls — both ISM indexes, auto sales and the NFIB index.
