Once my bed was designated as sleep zone only, it was so much easier to sleep. The other thing that changed everything: if I am tossing and turning for more than 15 minutes, switch ends of the bed. Just flip. I'm usually out in 5 minutes when I do that. Another really great tip, if you can't sleep, get up. I never thought of switching bed ends. I never figured out why switching ends helps, but I have done this a number of times. My girlfriend taught me this trick. Do You Really Need to Say Thank You? This Sonja Lyubomirsky essay in The New York Times is well worth a read and discusses a lot of the fears I have about love and marriage that I’ve discussed in my recent stand-up. This makes sense to me even in relationships that aren’t as serious as marriage, though. As a forewarning, this interview might be a bummer. The Science Behind What Motivates Us to Get Up For Work Every Day

However, I learned the hard way how businesses do not care for their workers. We are nothing more than tools to be burned out and replaced with cheaper parts after a few years. I lost my 20s to working 8 straight years, every waking second of every 14-24 hour workday. (No holidays, no weekends, no lunch breaks, no overtime pay, no bonuses.) I have been unable to find work I'm capable of doing since (now 10 years), due to anxiety disorder I've had for 21 years (since the former career was the only thing that fit my anxiety, other than the hours.) On a separate note, regarding the exercise: I gained weight due to that work schedule- obviously if you're literally working every second you can't exercise, shop or eat healthy.

" This line refers to the first section "How food interacts with your brain", which talks about the glycemic index, glucose levels, and leptin; and their effect on level of focus. The glycemic index is intended to assist those people with insulin problems (diabetics) with maintaining blood sugar levels, not to assist dieters. There are also limitations to the index since some obviously unhealthy food have a low index number, such as cake and ice cream. Those of us without diabetes have insulin that regulates blood glucose levels and therefore do not need to "graze" to maintain a average. The example used was a donut vs. some oats. You can get the same benefit of eating the 5 small meals you mention by eating one meal consisting of a big burrito (beans - lower glycemic index; rice - high; meat - no glycemic index, b/c no carb, but protein digests slower than carbs).
