FILTER27 — Electronic music blog, obscure sounds, downloads and more. The Best Electronic Music of 2010. As per usual, electronic music in 2010 was rhizomatic, but it was curiously unnamed. For all the music’s perversely exclusive adoption of subgenres and elite jargon, many electronic sounds in 2010 remained in the margins, using the lexicon of its predecessors to define what they were. In what world is Actress dubstep or the Night Slugs crew Funky/Grime/wot-ever u call it? It seems that the glut, as described in last year’s rendition of this column, has coagulated so densely that criticism is having a hard time keeping up. We’re getting no help from the artists themselves, who seem gleefully unconcerned with staying in one spot very long. All of this makes for a multiverse (to borrow Ginz’s term for his umbrella of labels) that’s hard to contain in summary.

There’s a ‘Sky-Is-Falling’ article in the Guardian’s Blog about how mp3 bloggers are wiping out independent music. Here’s how to be part of the massacre. As my friend said, “Stop me if you’ve heard this one before…” MP3 blogs, if you’ve missed the phenomenon, are regularly updated websites that talk about music and link to songs that their readers can download and listen to. Typically, the mp3 blog keeps itself to a particular subgenre of music, usually from the independent music end of the spectrum, rather than the more mainstream major label stuff. Think of them as advocates, rather than pirates. An mp3 blogger is essentially an opinion leader in the same way a music columnist or critic might be, only with three important differences: Hi. Well, readers, the time has come: When The Sun Hits is no longer a fledging binary publication; at 7 months old, we are now only a quasi-fledgling binary publication! The blog has had such a great response from readers and musicians in such a short period of time; it's been amazing and an honor.

That, coupled with the immense amount of extraordinary music being released right now, caused Amber and Danny to come to the only logical solution: WTSH needs to expand! We've taken on a few talented guest writers to help with interviews, album reviews and gear reviews, all of whom are epically stellar individuals who are as passionate and enjoy geeking out as much we do. Added bonus: with extra help, we now may be able to actually answer our emails in a timely fashion (sorry, everyone!). You will meet all the guest writers soon enough, but first up is Anas al-Horani, who resides in Amman, Jordan.
