My little sister is home for her spring break this week so I asked made her help me with a little hair tutorial idea I had. :) Before we made this video, I tried putting on a little makeup for Natalie... and I learned something. The same makeup techniques that work for one person DO NOT work for another. See, my sister wears very little makeup and I wanted to see what she looked like with some cat eye eyeliner... maybe a little blush. And let me tell yeh, it looked WRONG. So wrong. I've seen so many hair tutorials around lately on Pinterest, but I really liked how the sock bun and the extra boost of volume it gives.

It’s true, i did not create the technique of chalking your hair (chalk tips) but i have wanted to try it for a long time thus, i figured i should do it on camera for you guys! I love how it turned out and i felt like a mermaid…which is kind of a lifelong dream of mine. DIY Colofrul (Pastel) Hair Tips Using Soft Pastels AKA Fancy Chalk Prep It: get soft pastels from the art store or online – i used pastel colors by Sennelierif you’re brunette or have black hair, a spray bottle with waterhair spray – optional to seal color take about a half inch piece of hair and twist the ends*if you’re brunette, have black hair or dark red hair, spray the ends with your water bottle to moisten.use the chalk to dispense the pigment up and down the area of hair you want coloredshake off the excess chalk (PS – wear something old while you’re chalking in case any falls and stains).optional: seal in with hairspray – i didn’t do this step and the chalk stayed really well and didn’t get on my clothes at all!

This is a mega prep post for DIY gel manicures. if you read my blog, you know i’m a huge fan of gel manicures because your nails don’t break (mine are super strong and have grown because the gel protects them) and the polish doesn’t chip for two weeks! I would peek through my mom's little makeup bag and play around with the pretty things I would find. Even though I was a little too young to be wearing makeup, I was always experimenting in my bedroom mirror. I used to read Seventeen magazine back then, too. I remember finding this lip gloss tutorial among the pages and becoming completely obsessed with it.

First, a little back story: I was on Pinterest (I know, big surprise) awhile back and Ms. Ez from Creature Comforts pinned a fun messy hair-do, and mentioned she needed to learn how to do it. So I piped in that I should show her how. I have been wanting to do a hair tutorial for ages now, so this was the perfect reason to get it done. I was a hairstylist in my first life, and I am not too shy to say I was a pretty good one – I can’t say that about everything, so I will take it where I can ;). So here it is, my first hair tutorial, wahoo! It is best to start with 1-2 (even 3) day old hair that has a little wave to it.
Next you will want a little lift through the roots. So now we have the hair looking a little fuller, and the front styled the way we want it to look in the end. Split your hair into three sections, pulling the sides in front of your shoulders, leaving just one section in the back. Lift the back section up and backcomb at the base. If you follow me on Instagram you already know about this because I shared it there see photos below but the other night I slept on twisted buns to get these BIG CURLS just to switch it up a little which the husband LOVES. In fact he said “You know, you could do that MORE OFTEN if you wanted to”. Big curls are a BIG hit around here In 2009 I did a quick video demonstrating how I twist my hair into the little buns whilst singing to Lady Gaga – but I only did a photo tutorial of how to get the finished look. So the other morning before I left for the gallery I filmed it for you and hopefully answered all the questions I’ve gotten about this easy little tutorial.
