Six Social Media Trends for 2011 - David Armano - The Conversation - Harvard Business Review

http://blogs.hbr.org/cs/2010/12/six_social_media_trends_for_20_1.html?amp;utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+harvardbusiness+%28HBR.org%29 It was a banner year for social media growth and adoption. We witnessed Facebook overtake Google in most weekly site traffic, while some surveys reported nearly 95% of companies using LinkedIn to help in recruiting efforts. In my outlook for last year , I cited that mobile would become a lifeline to those looking for their social media fixes, and indeed the use of social media through mobile devices increased in the triple digits . I also outlined how "social media would look less social" or more accurately exclusive, and indeed, we've seen the re-launch of Facebook groups, which focus on niche interactivity, and more recently, the emergence of Path, billed as "the social network for intimate friends" which limits your network to only 50 people. The past year also saw some brands go full throttle on Foursquare's game-like geo-location platform, attempting to reward mayors and creating custom badges for the network's power users.

Do You Blog on Trending Topics? Do It Right to Get Noticed and Get Ranked!

Your blogging style is up to you. I for one usually shy away from newly hot and trending topics for various reasons: firstly, I am not based in the USA and thus I am slow in learning what everyone says, secondly, seeing great coverage, I usually have hard time finding what to add. And to tell you the truth, I come to realize this is a mistake . Trending topic coverage is GOLD . Oftentimes it never fails to engage existing readers and attract new ones no matter how well it has been covered before you. http://www.seosmarty.com/do-you-blog-on-trending-topics-do-it-right-to-get-noticed-and-get-ranked/

Google's Eric Schmidt on What the Web Will Look Like in 5 Years

http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/google_web_in_five_years.php Google CEO Eric Schmidt envisions a radically changed internet five years from now: dominated by Chinese-language and social media content, delivered over super-fast bandwidth in real time. Figuring out how to rank real-time social content is "the great challenge of the age," Schmidt said in an interview in front of thousands of CIOs and IT Directors at last week's Gartner Symposium/ITxpo Orlando 2009 . Gartner is the largest and most respected analyst firm in the world and much of what Schmidt said in his 45 minute interview was directed specifically at business leaders, but we've excerpted 6 minutes that we believe is of interest to anyone who's touched by the web.
