Lorea surgió de la necesidad de autogestionar nuestras redes sociales en Internet, puesto que depender de grandes corporaciones tiene muchas deventajas. Una de ellas es perder totalmente nuestra privacidad al dar sin condiciones nuestros datos a una empresa. Cuando estamos compartiendo información personal con nuestros amigos en Facebook, no solo lo estamos compartitiendo con nuestros amigos, sino también con Facebook, cosa que ellos aprovechan para hacer dinero con estudios de mercado y demás. Además, tienen el control de decidir qué hacer con ellos de manera unilateral. Servicios que crecieron gracias a la comunidad en su momento, ahora le han dado la espalda y se han privatizado, como ha sido el caso de ning o last.fm. De aquí la importancia de no ceder nunca la propiedad de nuestros datos a nadie, o de licenciarlos bajo licencias libres como se está haciendo en la Wikipedia desde el principio.
Lately, EFF's work to protect rights and liberties in the online world has focused rather heavily on social networking sites and their policies. The logic is borne out by the numbers — Facebook and Twitter combined claim hundreds of millions of worldwide users, so advocating for stronger privacy and less censorship from these kinds of websites will mean a better Internet for lots and lots of people. J’ai déjà parlé un peu de Facebook ici , je trouve que c’est un outil pratique (si on enlève toutes les applications tierces qui la plupart du temps ne servent à rien) mais qui hélas est propriétaire et en plus emprisonne les utilisateurs (il est impossible de récuperer automatiquement les informations qu’on lui confie, et il est également impossible de supprimer simplement son compte). Etant amateur de libertés et n’aimant pas vraiment voir mes informations personnelles prisonnières d’une société privée, je suis allé à la recherche d’alternative libre à Facebook.
