Art of Community

On the weekend of Sept. 21-23, Art of Community is once again being hosted in the beautiful coastal redwoods of Occidental, CA. A unique conference experience, AoC offers a wealth of opportunities for building and practicing skills of a cooperative culture and for people and organizations to share ideas and knowledge about creating and living in intentional communities. Inspiring people to purposefully engage in place-making is central to this year’s AoC vision. Featured speaker Mark Lakeman of The City Repair Project in Portland, Oregon will share wisdom and stories about his involvement in strengthening one’s sense of community via projects which connect people to place. http://www.artofcmty.com/

The Venus Project

The Venus Project is an organization that proposes a feasible plan of action for social change, one that works towards a peaceful and sustainable global civilization. It outlines an alternative to strive toward where human rights are no longer paper proclamations but a way of life. We operate out of a 21.5-acre Research Center located in Venus, Florida. When one considers the enormity of the challenges facing society today, we can safely conclude that the time is long overdue for us to re-examine our values and to reflect upon and evaluate some of the underlying issues and assumptions we have as a society.

http://www.users.on.net/~arachne/index.html This is what I see when I look through my front window in Spring. Yet this garden which has been developed on the fewer than 150 square metres of soil around my cottage, has traffic passing within inches of the front fence, and is closely surrounded by other dwellings. I was trained as a Permaculture Educator, specializing in urban design & sustainable living in the City , and have been developing an urban Permaculture design here since 1989. It is just over 1km. from the centre of ADELAIDE , capital city of SOUTH AUSTRALIA , known to the indigenous people, the Kaurnas, as Tandanya.
