{Valentines day} pixelated popup card
By Kate on February 6, 2012 I ‘ve been scratching my head trying to come up with a card for my hubby {AKA the non-romantic type }. I finally decided to make this pixely popup heart card! They are really minimal (which I love) and take about 20 minutes to make (that includes the card, insert and envelope). You can even make some pixely confetti to put inside the card (if you are a big kid like me!). Full instructions and printable templates below! There are few more dramatic pieces of art for your wall than the bold, brilliant traditional feather headdresses from Cameroon. Unfortunately, the price for these intricately woven, handmade pieces can be quite high, which is why I’m thrilled to share this “faux” feather hat DIY from graphic designer and blogger Rosa Pearson . She’s not only captured the vivid color of the original pieces but also some of the incredible texture of the feathers. Her version is a bit smaller than the giant Cameroonian hats, which can be as large as 31″ in diameter, but it’s still a wonderfully eye-catching addition to your wall decor, and for a mere fraction of the cost.

For New Year’s Eve, I wanted to make an easy appetizer that was at least a little impressive. These pretzel bites were perfect, except that I poorly planned my timing so that I was making them as our guests arrived. Little did I anticipate that our guests were going to finish making some of their dishes in my kitchen, too, so I was a bit distracted on making these. So distracted that they turned out with an unappetizing appearance. Fortunately, they still tasted great!
