Colombia. Colombia (/kəˈlʌmbiə/ kə-LUM-biə, or /kəˈlɒmbiə/ kə-LOM-biə), officially the Republic of Colombia (Spanish: República de Colombia [reˈpuβlika ðe koˈlombja]), is a country on the northwestern coast of South America, bordered to the northwest by Panama; to the north by the Caribbean Sea; to the east by Venezuela[11] and Brazil;[12] to the south by Ecuador and Peru;[13] and to the west by the Pacific Ocean.

Colombia

It is a unitary, constitutional republic comprising thirty-two departments. The territory of what is now Colombia was originally inhabited by indigenous peoples including the Muisca, Quimbaya, and Tairona. The Spanish arrived in 1499 and initiated a period of conquest and colonization ultimately creating the Viceroyalty of New Granada, with its capital at Bogotá.[14] Independence from Spain was won in 1819, but by 1830 "Gran Colombia" had collapsed with the secession of Venezuela and Ecuador. What is now Colombia and Panama emerged as the Republic of New Granada. Etymology History. Parti canadien. Creation[edit] The British Government established two oligarchic governments, or councils, to rule what is today Quebec and Ontario, then called Lower and Upper Canada.

Parti canadien

Upper Canada ruled by the Family Compact and Lower Canada ruled by the Chateau Clique. Both groups exerted monopolistic, un-contested rule over economic and political life. The councils were corrupt in their nature by strengthening their dominance by personal use of funds which eventually led to infrastructural problems around Upper and Lower Canada including, land distribution, poor road conditions and lack of education funding. Continuous frustration between the councils and the legislative assemblies over language differences and Lower Canada's discontent for treatment of French problems led to the beginning of the Parti Canadien.

History[edit] In 1806 the Parti canadien imitated its political adversaries, the Tory Château Clique, in founding a newspaper named Le Canadien. Unlike the “increasingly interrelated” situations in such places as Afghanistan and Iraq, the impact of these underreported crises is “local or at best regional,” António Guterres told the Security Council in an open meeting. He cited the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) as an example, noting that the world’s attention has recently been focused on the volatile North Kivu province, where the “current tragedy” has a “complex historical heritage coming from the colonial rule and exacerbated more recently by the Rwanda genocide and two Congolese wars.”

“But the DRC is not just North Kivu,” Mr. The High Commissioner also warned of new forms of displacement, with natural disasters on the rise due to climate change. Saudi Arabia: the Middle East's most under-reported conflict. As the British prime minister, David Cameron, visited Riyadh in mid-January, wooing Saudi business and strengthening bilateral relations, a young Shia man in the eastern province was shot dead.

Following the kingdom's huge arms deal with the United States, Cameron apparently wanted to persuade the Saudis to buy Typhoon Eurofighters. His visit was a slap in the face for protesters, who are demanding human rights and more of a say in their country's affairs. In the week beginning 16 January thousands of people – activists say tens of thousands – took to the streets of Awwamiya in the eastern province to commemorate the death of Issam Muhammad Abu Abdallah, aged 22. He had been shot by Saudi security forces on the night of 12 January. According to the interior ministry, the security forces were defending themselves after a police car had been attacked. These events are just the latest episodes in one of the Middle East's most under-reported conflicts. Forgotten Diaries Forgotten Conflicts. DOCUMENTOS -
