"Forma II" is the first collaborative output by Thomas Ankersmit and Valerio Tricoli. Composed and recorded in Berlin from 2008 to 2010 the music consists of four electroacoustic pieces based largely on analogue synthesizer material and one long-form swarm-like composition for multiple overdubbed saxophones. Additional sounds range from metal foil floating on ultrasonic sound-beams to mechanical clickers recorded in the abandoned radar domes at Teufelsberg.

Though this riddle has stumped philosophers for many years, the answer is actually straight forward. There are two approaches to sound. One is called physical acoustics, the other psychoacoustics. Physical acoustics (the topic of module one) deals with sound as physical quantities, such as pressures, amplitudes, frequencies, and spectra. If the tree falls in the forest there will be sound waves produced with physical properties.

As some of you know, I’ve been having a blast with my foray into gamedev. I had never programmed a day in my life before October, and now I’m up to making an iPhone Pong clone so I’m pretty excited about that! More to come in future blog posts. Anyways, I’ve been careening through Beginner Gamedev articles like crazy and I feel it’s time to pay it forward to the gamedev community by providing some music lessons. While obviously I’d prefer every game developer out there to come to me for music, I think some people want to make their own game soundtracks, and would if they only knew how. Just like any field of study, music can’t be taught in a day, but I wanted to lay down some basics to get people started.

Beside the last big edition of OUR PARTY before summer, we’ve got some nice gigs to look forward too. First up is our first gig in the French speaking part of the country. In Liege no less. Surely a vibrant city we need to get into our groove. Superfly is a party we heard lots of good stuff about.Orsi Recommends | Orsii

So we’re excited to announce that the next release on our label will be Kalbata’s ‘Freetown’ and ‘Skanker’ , two in-demand tracks that have been tearing up dancefloors for those that have received the early promo. The release drops on the 30th April and you can preview both below.

Second of two crucial Shackleton singles on Honest Jon's, weighted with dynamic remixes by T++ and Mordant Music. In contrast to the coffin intensity of 'Deadman', 'Fireworks' is widescreen and viewed from above (perhaps best imagined from the perspective of the unfortunate soul in Gaspar Noé's 'Enter The Void'?), suspended in up-drafting columns of ghoulish synth voices, silvery hi-hats and convulsing kicks evaporated from viscous subs way below. With 'Undeadman' his zombied cadaver arises again, divined like a worm from the ground by plunging subs to join the skull disco on consecrated ground. T++ is similarly averse to gravity, his agile rebuild feeling like it's being dragged upwards by the chest, limbs carving 'ardcore torque in mid-air, buffeted by sub-harmonic turbulence. There's a reference to his classic Dynamo 12" in the title 'Außen Vor', but we haven't the foggiest what it means.

Grandiose, lush, full and immersive are all words that are summoned to my mind when hearing The Darkest Dark Goes by sink \ sink for the very first time. Like an ancient machine warming up Astronávt quavers in, slowly and assuredly joined by an assembly of warm instruments and Kim Schulke’s striking vocals. What follows is an introduction to an album steeped in epic lo-fi sounds, thick and dense orchestration and unbridled emotion. sink \ sinks' creative process is one of dynamism and fluidity with Gareth Schott writing and recording the music, Kim Schulke taking care of vocals and Callum Plews responsible for writing the majority of the lyrics, mixing and mastering. The end result is enhanced by contributions from established drone artists Darren Harper (Earth Mantra, Twisted Treeline) and Gimu (Sacred Phrases, Audio Gourmet), and complimented by a host of guest musicians. The Homemade Music Movement has grown from the roots of the Mail Art Movement, and in order to pay due respect and acknowledge these origins, I propose an international EMAIL audio art project in which contributors will send to me a one-minute miniature audio work in mp3 format (plus visual works if desired) attached to an email. These works will be published together in volumes online. Guidelines for contributing below. featuring tracks from these 60 artists:
