With parliament resuming this morning and a marriage equality bill set to be debated any day now, it's no wonder that both sides are ramping up their campaigning efforts. We've seen powerful rallies around the country over the weekend, demonstrating just how many Australians are in favour of the change. We've seen the operators of Canberra airport turn up the lights to give MPs a rainbow welcome. But we're also seeing more from the other side - and it's not pretty. In The Australian today, equality opponents Australian Marriage Forum took out a full page ad promoting the hashtag #ItsNotMarriage along with several rather unreasonable and unsavoury arguments as to why the institution should not be redefined to be more inclusive.

Concern was raised again in 2012 when the United Nations human rights chief called on China to address the allegations of human rights violations in Tibet.
