French photographer Benoit Courti‘s work has enjoyed a surge of popularity online as more and more people encounter his simple, elegant and striking photographs. Courti‘s photography covers a wide spectrum of subjects, but most of his pictures retain a powerful intimacy with their subjects, especially his portraits. He is the consummate fine arts photographer, seeming to be equally comfortable with both black and white and color, but it is probably his black and white work that captures our attention most.
It is gritty, dark, intimate and beautiful. What may frustrate or motivate the amateur photographers among our readers is that Courti only fully embraced professional photography in 2010. He had an interest in it since childhood, but had been working as a music composer before making the switch. Now he has a personal website where he sells his prints. Source: Benoit Courti. Creative Costumes of Still-Practiced Pagan Rituals of Europe (19 pics) 348K views 225 days ago by Justina Now these are not your average Halloween costumes.
For two years, French photographer Charles Fréger has been traveling throughout 19 European countries and trying to capture the spirit of what he calls “tribal Europe” in his “Wilder Mann” series. What he found was a huge array of pagan rituals, mainly related to the winter solstice and spring renewal, focusing on the common myth of the “wild man.” [Read more...] It appears that the tradition of men dressing up as wild animals and monsters, which dates back to neolithic times and shamanism, is still very alive nowadays. The mythological figure of a “wild man” represents the complicated relationship humans have with nature and life and death cycles.
Abandoned Porn. Story Behind Those Stunning Cinematic Gifs.

Girl in Shopping Cart, Chicago, 1989 © Paul D’Amato Paul D’Amato has the above photograph in the Presumed Innonece exhibition that I just mentioned. It’s from his beautiful series entitled Barrio, photographs made between 1988 and 2002 in Pilsen, Chicago’s largest Mexican neighborhood, and the neighboring Little Village. The photographs that D’Amato made in those fourteen years became increasingly intimate; he eventually grew to know residents of the neighborhood and could then make photographs of people at work, children at play, families at weddings or parties, and even portraits of gang members.
Here are a few of my favorites along with excerpts from D’Amato’s Words (journal entries made between 1989 and 2002): Barbershop Window, Chicago, 1990 © Paul D’Amato But still the question “why Pilsen?” Shorty-B, Chicago, 1994 © Paul D’Amato After my gang experiences I became disenchanted with the whole documentary approach to life. After two hours and about 150 shots, Redditor smsilton managed to take a relatively clear shot of a MC Escher painting through a water drop. His weapon of choice was Canon 60mm macro f/2.8, which he shot at ISO 640 and 1/250. "The hardest part was focusing," he says. "In the set up picture you can see a piece of string above the eye dropper. I would let that hang down off the eye dropper and focus on that, then move it and squeeze the dropper and the shutter at almost the same time.
I have like 30ish more pictures with the drop clearly in the shot but the sketch behind it isn't in focus, this was the clearest one I got. " via [Reddit] Inside North Korea - Alan Taylor - In Focus. Earlier this year, David Guttenfelder, chief Asia photographer for the Associated Press, along with Jean H. Lee, AP bureau chief in Seoul, were granted unprecedented access to parts of North Korea. The pair made visits to famous sites accompanied by government minders. They were also allowed to travel into the countryside accompanied by North Korean journalists instead of government officials.
Though much of what the AP team saw was certainly orchestrated, their access was still remarkable. Collected here are some of Guttenfelder's images from the trip that provide a glimpse of North Korea.
