‪What is Google+ (Google Plus) and do I need it?‬‏ Facebook vs. Twitter vs. LinkedIn vs. Google+ Unlike, say, the email that keeps piling up in my Inbox, available time for social media is not an ever-expanding commodity.

Which means that even though engaging with readers on social networks is a key part of my job, it's getting close to triage time. Also, Facebook largely lost my personal attention back at the end of 2009, when yet the latest in privacy changes made me consider closing my account entirely. Facebook’s privacy controls remain difficult to navigate, despite efforts at simplification. For instance: Try to find the button to turn off having your “Likes” included in ads. And its privacy policy clocks in at nearly 6,000 words. Can Facebook and Google+ Coexist? Like oil and water or like peanut butter and jelly? Google+, the search giant’s new social network, has everyone in the tech industry speculating about whether it’s "the Facebook Killer. " The death of MySpace seems to prove that people have room in their lives for only one social network, one profile page.

After all, how many different places do you need to announce your favorite TV shows? How many different places do you need to share your witty thoughts? On the other hand, Twitter proved that "social" can come in different forms--and 140 characters is more appropriate for some witty thoughts than for others. Of course, Google and Facebook haven't played nice lately, and they probably won't now.
