It has been a long while since I last posted anything. My time and efforts have been devoted elsewhere. I'm not sure if I'll still be posting things on here, but today I made a great mix for fall, which is just around the corner. Let me know what you think of it. http://deserthymns.blogspot.com/

Everything Was Beautiful, and Nothing Hurt

If any year fits the definition of "classic" it would be 1973, a year that could be seen as a pinnacle of classic rock, soul, and country. It was the year Pink Floyd released The Dark Side of the Moon, the year Bruce Springsteen made a splashy debut, the year David Bowie sung about "The Jean Genie," the year Paul McCartney took his band on the run, but also it was the year Waylon Jennings turned outlaw with Honky Tonk Heroes, the year Can broke ground on Future Days, the height of smooth soul and Blaxploitation, the year Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes pointed the way toward disco. In other words, it was a year that gave us plenty of reasons to love, and here AMG rounds up some of our very favorite albums and singles from the glorious year of 1973.

http://www.audiodrums.com/ Daniel Bedingfield , the UK pop star best known for his chart topping 2002 hit Gotta Get Thru This , returns with a video for Rocks Off , the first track from his new EP due April 24 th . The video, in which Daniel is stripped naked by a mob of unruly women, was inspired by the idea that “nothing, not even the hottest girls in the world, can distract me from my music.” Watch Rocks Off on Youtube: http://youtu.be/2Qi41uEFt5g

It’s been awhile since we heard anything from Brantford, Ontario multi-instrumentalists The Racoon Wedding . They released their first album Gather Gather Bones, Rattle Rattle Truth in 2010 and since then have found themselves touring and gaining fans who are drawn to their rugged, folk-rock sound. Genres aside, I respect the authenticity in everything that The Racoon Wedding do. They reiterate the importance of doing music for fun as well as passion’s sake, and not to mention are admirable representatives for their hometown. Onondaga is the second full length album to be released by the group. I immediately heard a sweeter, jazzier sound with more emphasis on trumpets, saxophones and melody.

If you like Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zero’s sweet, Southern tinged, sing a long folk song, “Home,” you will surely like “Little Talks,” by indie folk band, Of Monsters And Men. The six piece band from Iceland is getting attention with this sleeper single. It’s hard not to pay attention with the sentimental, back [...]

http://www.covertcuriosity.blogspot.com/ It's a a small, small world. A good friend of mine recently moved into the house that one of the guys from The Golden Dawn grew up in. A few days ago he (Billy Hallmark) just happened to be in the neighborhood, and stopped by the house for a little nostalgia.

Covert Curiosity, an Austin Music Blog

Music is only as important as society makes it. It's not something that musicians have any control over. Sure, you can do your best by making something with a bit of quality to it, but you don't have any say in how the world responds to it. http://cyberinsekt.livejournal.com/

Letters Have No Arms !

If You Tolerate This Your Children's Blogs Will Be Next Phew, it's been quite a few days for the music blogging community. What happened? This week Google decided to take down (i.e. completely delete) a number of large and smaller music blogs hosted on the popular Blogger and Blogspot services. For supposed copyright infringement . http://letterarms.blogspot.com/
http://morecowbelle.net/ The usual internal debating and spreadsheeting has been underway here for several weeks as List Season moves forward. Instead of giving you several dozens of albums this year, I give you this mix of the runners-up and soon, a Top Ten. You can grab the zip file here . I also made a Spotify mix , because I hear the kids are into that streaming shit. Each of these albums is worth your time.

Pretty Much Amazing: Music Blog, New Music, MP3s, Album Reviews,

We spoke to soon when we said Shabazz’s remix of Spank Rock/Santigold’s “Car Song” was going to dominate our weekend listening. You absolutely have to check out Jai Paul’s brand… With longtime bassist/keys player Sadek Bazarra leaving to focus on his graphic design ambitions Bear in Heaven are tasked with navigating the “spiky psych-prog tendencies” and “Southern rock spirit” spectrum bestowed by critics with one less astronaut. We seriously doubt we are going to listen to anything but Shabazz Palaces’ remix of Spank Rock and Santigold’s “Car Song” for the next 72 hours. The track will appear…

Ryan's Smashing Life

Growing up in the late '70s/ early '80s, I spent a lot of time in the car with my parents and the only radio station we could ever agree on was WRON in my hometown of Lewisburg, WV. The FM station was easy listening (way more horrible than the Lite FMs of today) and it's AM version which played the hits. And at the time, the hits were all pretty mellow. Barry Gibb was writing for everyone, the Doobie Brothers were huge, "You Light Up My Life" was unavoidable, and the Little River Band was the WV-approved version of Steely Dan.

Star Maker Machine

I was going to write about this song for the “Surprise!” theme, but instead decided to use it for the Bible Stories theme. And yet, I am daunted by the prospect of writing about “Supper’s Ready,” a nearly 23 minute suite.
