Monsanto drags over 400 U.S. farmers to court over GM seed patents: When will Big Ag's corrupt reign end? (NaturalNews) Agri-giant Monsanto, not satisfied with being one of the world's largest agricultural corporations, is dragging hundreds of U.S. farmers into court over alleged copyright violations for repeated usage of the company's patented seeds. In a case that has surprised a lot of observers, the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear one of these complaints on Feb. 19.

That case, Bowman v. Monsanto Co., was billed as a landmark battle pitting farmer Vernon Bowman against the international Ag-giant over the former's repeated use of seeds he bought from Monsanto which the company says are only supposed to be used for one growing season. In advance of the case, The Huffington Post reported, the Center for Food Safety and the Save Our Seeds campaigning organizations released a report detailing similar cases.

Price of seeds have skyrocketed According to that report titled "Seed Giants vs. That doesn't matter to Monsanto and the other Ag-giants, but it does matter to the U.S. Sources: 35% of Food Additives Deemed Harmless were Evaluated by Manufacturer or Contractor Hired by Manufacturer. Are the additives in food really safe, even if the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says so? A new study has raised questions about the experts who help to validate so-called “generally recognized as safe” (GRAS) additives. A group of legal and medical professionals reviewed 451 GRAS notifications that were submitted to the FDA between 1997 and 2012. Out of these 451, 22.4% were made by an employee of an additive manufacturer and 13.3% by an employee of a consulting firm selected by the manufacturer—meaning 35% were determined by individuals who may have had a conflict of interest.

Another 64.3% of the safety assessments were done by an expert panel selected by either a consulting firm or the manufacturer. “Between 1997 and 2012, financial conflicts of interest were ubiquitous in determinations that an additive to food was GRAS,” the authors of the study wrote. -Noel Brinkerhoff To Learn More: Experts who decide on food additives conflicted (by Elizabeth Weise, USA Today) Biotech Attack GMO Labeling in WA---Organic Brands Hide Behind Lobby Group. The Cornucopia Institute releases shopper’s guide: pro/con I-522 brands Proposition I-522, a citizen’s initiative on the ballot on November 5 in Washington state, would mandate clear labeling of genetically engineered (GE) ingredients on food packages. It has become the latest battleground pitting consumer and farmer advocates against multi-billion-dollar agribusiness corporations.

Recent polling indicates strong support for the Washington state informational labeling measure. But a flood of money to fight the ballot initiative has rolled in from Monsanto, DuPont, and other biotechnology interests and food manufacturers, now totaling over $11 million, according to Washington state election records. One leading organic manufacturer that has been actively promoting and funding a “yes on I-522″ vote is Nutiva.

Glyphosate toxicity to humans: An overview. (NaturalNews) Monsanto's infamous Roundup contains the hotly debated compound called glyphosate. This merciless herbicide is also found in 750 or more U.S. products. An herbicide like this infiltrates the landscape and accumulates in mammals, especially bone, hindering cellular detoxification along the way. A destroyer, glyphosate annihilates a plant's building blocks of life, tearing apart amino acids.

By disrupting the "shikimate pathway" in plants and microorganisms, glyphosate creeps inside leaves and stalk, raping natural life processes. Glyphosate also destroys the beneficial microorganism in the human gut, destroying the human immune system. To make matters worse, glyphosate is often mixed with adjuvants - chemical agents that increase glyphosate's destructive power. Glyphosate's mere existence has led scientists to develop Roundup-Ready seeds which are genetically modified to resist the glyphosate. The production of glyphosate has led the world down a dark course. Connecticut passes first GMO food labeling law in US. The state of Connecticut has become the first to successfully enact a law requiring food containing genetically modified ingredients to be labeled as such, though it comes with the unusual requirement that four other states must pass similar legislation.

Though supporters of GMO product labeling will likely laud the state legislature’s approval of the new bill, it represents a significant weakening of the initial proposal with the introduction of a bipartisan ‘compromise’ requiring that four additional states, one of which must border Connecticut, pass labeling laws as well. An additional requirement is that the aggregate population of any combination of such states exceed 20 million people. Perhaps not surprisingly then, as the New York Daily News reported just yesterday, a last-minute push by biotech lobbyists was attributed to the defeat of a GMO labeling law in New York. Since that FDA decision, the food industry has spent considerable resources to prevent GMO ingredient labeling. Monsanto’s Dirty Dozen: The 12 Most Awful Products Made By Monsanto. When you take a moment to reflect on the history of product development at Monsanto, what do you find? Here are twelve products that Monsanto has brought to market.

See if you can spot the pattern… #1 – Saccharin Did you know Monsanto got started because of an artificial sweetener? John Francisco Queeny founded Monsanto Chemical Works in St. Louis, Missouri with the goal of producing saccharin[1] for Coca-Cola. After mounting pressure from consumers, the Calorie Control Council[5], and manufacturers of artificial sweeteners and diet sodas, along with additional studies[6] (several conducted by the sugar and sweetener industry) that reported flaws in the 1970s studies, saccharin was delisted from the NIH’s Carcinogen List. . #2 – PCBs During the early 1920s, Monsanto began expanding their chemical production into polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) to produce coolant fluids for electrical transformers, capacitors, and electric motors. . #3 – Polystyrene #4 – Atom bomb and nuclear weapons P.S. France to probe study linking GM corn to cancer - AGRICULTURE. European Commission To Ban Heirloom Seeds and Criminalize Plants & Seeds Not Registered With Government. Tania Rabesandratana ScienceInsider June 7th, 2013 Reader Views: 3,293 The European Commission is reforming the European Union’s plant and animal health legislation in a bid to enhance food safety across the bloc. But critics say that the measures, proposed on Monday, threaten seed diversity and favor large agrochemical businesses. The commission has proposed five pieces of legislation to replace and clarify existing regulation, a whopping 70 legal texts governing the European Union’s food chain. The package includes rules to better prevent and eradicate pests and animal diseases across the union and to toughen up controls and penalties against food fraud.

Environmental groups have taken aim at one part of the proposal that regulates the production and marketing of seeds and other “plant reproductive material,” such as young plants and tubers. There’s a story doing the rounds again, about how Monsanto, one of the world’s largest profiteers of genetically engineered (GE) food, banned GE food from its own corporate canteens! Monsanto had its pants pulled down by Friends of the Earth in 1999, who revealed that the company was refusing to serve to its own staff the very same GE food that it incessantly foists upon impoverished nations on the premise that it will save populations from starvation.

Although it has never been proved, Monsanto constantly claims that GE food is harmless – so why wasn’t it serving it in its own office? Anthony Gucciardi Infowars.com September 25, 2013 This unprecedented move shows the true power of the anti-GMO, anti-Monsanto movement, and how elected officials are now being forced to side with the concerned population over the money-spewing Monsanto. After all, it was Monsanto who purchased its way into the initial Senate spending bill legislation via a rider dubbed the ‘Monsanto Protection Act’ through Senator Roy Blunt.

Image: Monsanto Protest. Officially labeled the Farmer Assurance Provision under Sec. 735 of the Senate Continuing Resolution spending bill, Senator Blunt was conveniently given over $64,000 by Monsanto before he handed the biotech corporation the ability to write its own legislation for the Monsanto Protection Act. And as I told you back in March here on the frontlines of anti-GMO activism, the financial payload dished out by Monsanto was enough to secure a major victory for corporations over both the public and even the federal government. Breaking! ETCNR_CharityCartel_07March2013. Hungary Destroys All Monsanto GMO Corn Fields. Hungary has taken a bold stand against biotech giant Monsanto and genetic modification by destroying 1000 acres of maize found to have been grown with genetically modified seeds, according to Hungary deputy state secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development Lajos Bognar. Unlike many European Union countries, Hungary is a nation where genetically modified (GM) seeds are banned.

In a similar stance against GM ingredients, Peru has also passed a 10 year ban on GM foods. Almost 1000 acres of maize found to have been ground with genetically modified seeds have been destroyed throughout Hungary, deputy state secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development Lajos Bognar said. The GMO maize has been ploughed under, said Lajos Bognar, but pollen has not spread from the maize, he added. Unlike several EU members, GMO seeds are banned in Hungary. (TheOrganicPrepper) – The FY14 Continuing Resolution (CR) spending bill is soon to be on the table in the Senate, and hidden in this bill is a continuance of the controversial “Monsanto Protection Act” that was passed 6 months ago (HR 933) amidst enormous public outcry. It probably won’t come as much of a surprise that the mainstream media is providing disinformation regarding this bill – after all – look at their advertisers. It’s just good business for them to go with the flow on this. Anthony GucciardiInfowars.comWednesday, April 4, 2012 In what has been called the single largest wave of recorded suicides in human history, Indian farmers are now killing themselves in record numbers.

It has been extensively reported, even in mainstream news, but nothing has been done about the issue. The cause? Monsanto’s cost-inflated and ineffective seeds have been driving farmers to suicide, and is considered to be one of the largest — if not the largest — cause of the quarter of a million farmer suicides over the past 16 years. According to the most recent figures (provided by the New York University School of Law), 17,638 Indian farmers committed suicide in 2009 — about one death every 30 minutes. To further add backing to the tragedy, the rate of Indian farmer suicides massively increased since the introduction of Monsanto’s Bt cotton in 2002.
