Levi Strauss & Co. or simply Levi’s was founded in 1853 when Levi Strauss came from Buttenheim, Bavaria, to San Francisco, California to open a west coast branch of his brothers’ New York dry goods business.
In 1873, Levi Strauss and tailor Jacob Davis received a U.S. patent to make the first riveted men’s work pants out of denim: the first blue jeans were born! It is hard to believe that Levi’s iconic riveted denim jean was introduced over a century ago. Since then, Levi’s has periodically tweaked the fit, fabric and features of the 501 Jean to suit the needs and preferences of the modern worker. Luna + Hill is very proud to introduce the 1947 501s to the shelf. We will be adding more from each of these Levi’s collections into the fall season.
