3 Delicious, Classic Italian Pastas. One Pot Kale and Quinoa Pilaf recipe from Food52. Avocado Breakfast Pizza with Fried Egg. This week I was on an avocado bender and I shared some tasty new avocado recipes and reminisced about some of my favourites that I have already written about and I realized that I had not mentioned one of my absolute favourite ways to enjoy avocados and possibly the simplest way, on toast for breakfast. It is so simple with just mashed avocado that is seasoned with a bit of salt, fresh ground pepper and perhaps a bit of lime juice and served on toast and yet it is so good! I recently came across the idea of a breakfast pizza that had an egg in the middle and I thought, wouldn't it be nice to do a pizza version of avocado on toast except instead of toast use a pita and top it with a fried egg and possibly other toppings? As soon as I had the idea, I knew that I would have to try it and it turned out wonderfully well! My favourite from all of the experiments had to be the bacon version!

It is almost like salty bacon and creamy avocado were made for each other! Servings: makes 1 serving. Sausage and Kale Dinner Tart recipe from food52. Author Notes: This is the single most soul satisfying tart I have ever made. Sausage and kale both are iconic winter fare. They dominate this tart with only minor distractions from sauteed onion, garlic, and the slightest addition of ricotta cheese. Served atop the flaky butter crust, this is a winter meal to celebrate. - My Pantry Shelf (less)Author Notes: This is the single most soul satisfying tart I have ever made.

Recipe for Spicy Shrimp Sandwich with Chipotle Avocado Mayonnaise at Life. I will be the first one to admit that I am not a huge sandwich person. Ryan loves them. He loves sub sandwiches, turkey sandwiches, roast beef sandwiches, meatloaf sandwiches, meatball sandwiches…I could go on and on.

I on the other hand am not a huge fan. With that said, I will admit that after making and eating this sandwich I dreamed about it and craved it for the next few days. The spicy shrimp, the creamy chipotle avocado mayonnaise, the crunchy bread and crisp lettuce is enough to make anyone a sandwich fan. Avocados alone are pretty creamy so I was a little hesitant to mix them with mayonnaise but seriously, the result was like avocado heaven. And when I decided to add some spicy chipotle peppers it was like laying on a sun soaked beach in that avocado heaven. Paul Prudhomme's Poorman's Jambalaya Recipe - Food.com - 72415.

Cara's Cravings: Curried Lentils and Butternut Squash. I’m highly considering starting a Post-It Note habit. As much as I’d like to think my brain is sharp as a tack, I’m finally ready accept that it it just can’t permanently record all the little reminders I need to help me through life as fast as I think of them. My Post-It Notes would have reminders like: “Put your wet clothes in the dryer before they get all damp and stinky” (too late) “Mail your cousin that DVD full of cute pictures you took at her son’s birthday party” (despite the fact that I drive by a blue mailbox every day 1/4 mile from my house) And, “you don’t have to be rockstar every night of the week, making something completely new and different, when there’s almost five year’s worth of recipes you really liked eating sitting right here.” (you could scramble some eggs with whatever flavor of chicken sausage happens to be in the freezer and something half-moldy from the cheese drawer, and he’d still think you’re a rockstar.)

While most often associated with northern Indian cuisine, Biryani is a dish with Persian origins found in various forms from Iraq to Thailand. As you might imagine, there is a huge variety of different preparations stemming from the vast swath of land it calls home. Common elements include some type of meat (goat, lamb or chicken), rice, and spices such as cardamom, cinnamon, bay leaves, coriander and mint. I’m not going to say that my recipe originates anywhere specific, but it relies heavily on Indian flavours. Though it takes a bit of prep work, it’s not complicated and there’s a lot off leeway to improvise with your own blend of spices.

It’s fantastic with a cucumber raita and a squeeze of lemon, cooling off the heat while adding a fresh zing that brightens all the spices in the dish. Wash the chicken, pat dry and trim any excess fat or skin off the chicken. Meanwhile, heat a large heavy bottomed frying pan over medium high heat until hot. Big Girls Small Kitchen » Meatless Monday: Peter Berley’s Best Tofu. Other BGSK Tofu Dishes: Sweet and Sour Tofu; Asian Baked Tofu; Tofu Pizza with Garlic and Rosemary For the last two and a half years, since this blog’s inception, I’ve been name-dropping Peter Berley’s dill tofu. In fact, I wanted to talk about it so much, I spent most of this post about soup gushing about tofu. With full wariness about repeating myself, here’s a little background on my dating life and dill tofu: In high school, our best friend Carolyn (not to mention Jordana) was a vegetarian. This had a huge impact on our potlucks in early years, if this ode to eggplant parm was any indication.

But perhaps more evocative of those days than the eggplant and even mine and Cara’s competing oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, is the veggie (vegan, in fact) tofu dish that Carolyn’s dad, Donald, would make us for post-field hockey game picnics. This tofu is flavored with white wine, mustard, and dill, and it was really my gateway dish into vegetarian cooking. Phoebe, THE QUARTER-LIFE COOK. Lettuce Wraps. Shrimp Burgers with Roasted Garlic-Orange Aioli recipe from food52. Author Notes: The roasted garlic-orange aioli plays double-duty here: it binds the shrimp burgers and serves as a perfect condiment slathered on a toasted bun. I've added caramelized fennel and shallots, along with red bell pepper, herbs, and orange zest, to the burgers to up the flavor and complement the aioli. Although these are a breeze to fry up in a cast iron skillet, they would be lovely grilled. - EmilyC (less)Author Notes: The roasted garlic-orange aioli plays double-duty here: it binds the shrimp burgers and serves as a perfect condiment slathered on a toasted bun.

An Egg Salad Sandwich, Eight Ways | Apartment Therapy The Kitchn. Vegetarian Camping Meal Ideas - Organic Grocery Deals. Vegetarian Lentil Burgers Recipe. For those of you who are fans of the chickpea-based veggie burger I did in Super Natural Cooking, you might want to try this vegetarian lentil burger recipe - it's a twist on the one from my book. This version is a tasty, hearty lentil "burger" slathered with saffron yogurt and stuffed with avocado, lettuce, and onions.

As I mentioned in SNC I finally figured out how to make a veggie burger that I actually enjoy - but it took an ah-ha moment for me to get there. I've always felt that when you put a veggie burger patty on a bun you end up with a burger experience that is too dry and bready. It finally dawned on me to turn the patty into the bun by splitting it in half and then stuffing that with all sorts of deliciousness - avocados, greens, tomatoes, onions, spreads, whatever.

This lentil burger uses the same approach. I'd bet caramelized onions would add another dimension of depth and flavor either on (or in) these, if you have a bit of extra time on your hands. Kenji Lopez-Alt] Ramen in the U.S. has come a long way. Once known only in its 10-for-a-dollar instant-lunch form—a staple of offices and dorm rooms all around the '80s and '90s—high-end real ramen shops are springing up left and right on both coasts and everywhere in between. As a half-Japanese kid in the '80s, I grew up eating instant ramen at least once a week, and it still holds a special place in my gut. The real stuff is great, but sometimes only the add-hot-water pack will do. That said, my tastes have changed and expanded considerably over the years, and sometimes that little flavoring packet just isn't enough.
