For Science Educators > Ohio Focus Resources. Web 2.0 Science Tools. By Laura Turner The following web2.0 sites would be useful for science educators at the high school and middle school level. Some would also be appropriate for higher elementary grade levels.

There are many new ‘tools’ or websites that take advantage of the higher speed and bandwidth of today’s Internet. Web 1.0 tools/websites were text based and web2.0 tools/websites are designed for full-motion video, 3D animations and are generally interactive in some manner. Web 2.0 can also be described as the second round of new technology development and adoption. The Internet began as an adoption of a new technology, and then as web practices were standardized, user-friendly interface and aesthetic design were improved.

This years academies include the Biodiversity Academy; Energy: Past, Present, and Future; and Earth's History and Global Change Academy. Can't wait until the 2014 SSEATs? Graphite: Digital Resources Site Added: Dec 6, 2013 Graphite is a free online portal to help preK-12 educators find, use, and share the best digital apps, games, and websites for their students.

Created by Common Sense Media with funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the service contains objective ratings of apps and other digital learning resources from professional reviewers, along with reviews from dozens of “Graphite Educators,” teachers who are hand-picked by Common Sense Media. Graphite provides unbiased reviews of the learning potential of apps developed for a variety of platforms. Users can search for reviews of resources by subject, grade level, cost (free, “freemium,” or paid), and type (app, game, or website). When you click on a review, it tells you the price, the grade levels the app is most appropriate for, setup time, platforms (iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, Android, Kindle Fire, or Nook HD), and subject areas—with a link to specific standards the app meets.
