Quality Rubrics / Converting_Rubric_to_a_Grade

Caveat: Rubrics are about quality. Grades (in a traditional numeric-based system) are about quantifying. At times, it becomes necessary for a teacher to convert a student's performance on a rubric to a grade. Setting aside the challenges inherent in a traditional grading system (I'll leave that to people more invested in that particular topic), it is possible to convert a student's performance on a rubric to a grade a mark. However, two things should be noted: 1. 2.

Step 1: Decide whether your rubric will be weighted or un-weighted. Step 2: Identify the highest number of points your rubric will allow. For the rubric below, 16/16 is the highest if all dimensions (A,B,C,D) are weighted equally. Step 3: Determine the lowest number of points your rubric will allow. Step 4: Decide what the highest and lowest rubric scores are equivalent to in your grading system by reading your rubric. Gradebooker - An Online Gradebook with Incredible Metrics. Using Text-Expansion Software to Respond to Student Writing

Let me explain. I teach students how to write. It’s a huge part of my job, and I love it…for the most part. I love talking with students about their writing. I love looking at their drafts and giving them feedback. The reason I don’t love doing this is because it’s an activity that can get very repetitive. With all students in possession of the same assigned writing handbook, rather than write out the rules for commas myself in the margin of every paper that has comma errors, I can just write, “See section C of the handbook,” instead. Maybe, just to be sure, I should write, “See section C of the handbook for an explanation of the rules about commas.”

So that takes care of making comments about things like grammar or punctuation. Grading. 11trees: Better Documents. Fewer Trees. T.A. Toolbar, Essay Grading Software: Grade Essays Faster, Better! What is an "A"?

Use "Back" to return here. Because many courses use objective tests for grading, most students have the mistaken impression that the difference between a B or an A is a matter of points. In reality, letter grades represent different kinds of performances. As a student, I too experienced the frustration of getting a B when I thought I deserved an A. It takes a long time and a lot of practice to develop the analytical thinking skills that generate A-level work.
