Occupy Wall Street uses social media to spread nationwide - Tech Talk. (CBS) - Social media has been an important tool for protesters overseas. Now that the Occupy Wall Street protests have reached a tipping point, the abundance of online organizing is staggering. "On September 17, we want to see 20,000 people flood into lower Manhattan, set up tents, kitchens, peaceful barricades and occupy Wall Street for a few months. Once there, we shall incessantly repeat one simple demand in a plurality of voices," the post said. When CNN reported that "hundreds" of people showed up, it seemed like a success for the cause. Not so fast. Once we took a closer look at the movement and how it was being organized, we were impressed. Facebook pages have popped up for major cities across the country.
