The supplement companies have many people running to their local health (drug) stores in an effort to make themselves deficiency-free, but is this a good idea? A number of issues will be raised in this article and I will attempt to piece together some information from many different and reliable (non-financially-oriented) sources.
Last year, our friend Harley was interviewed on TV (here in Australia), some show called, I think, "What's good for you".. Now, Harley's this guy who is, to say the least.. ultra fit.. Kveta and I bumped into him purely by chance in Thailand, in 2006.. He had biked up much of the distance from Singapore.. Harley's goal is to beat the world record for fastest time around Australia on his bike (that's a push bike/bicycle not a motor powered vehicle).. On pretty much mostly just fruit..
Cruciferous [krew-SIH-fer-uhs] vegetable family are named for their cross-shaped (crucifer) flower petals. Research of this family of vegetables indicates that they may provide protection against certain cancers. Cruciferous vegetables contain antioxidants (particularly beta carotene and the compound sulforaphane). They are high in fiber, vitamins and minerals. Cruciferous vegetables also cantain indole-3-carbidol (I3C). This element changes the way estrogen is metabolized and may prevent estrogen driven cancers.
By understanding why the body is inducing them. The body is usually on autopilot. The survival mechanism is very strong. Usually people try to overcome this mechanism. Which is almost impossible. It is much easier and healthier if you respect and take advantage of it.
Vegetables listed here can be and should be juiced uncooked. Do get acquainted with the curative values of each of these foods. Vegans and the Vitamin B 12 Deficiency Myth [Posted 23 October 2003; last updated 22 November 2008] It seems there's always at least one tired old myth making the rounds about vegetarianism. Twenty years ago when I switched, it was the "protein deficiency" myth. Now that the protein myth has been completely discredited (human breast milk is only 5% protein, and it is estimated that adult humans only need 2-3% protein in their daily diet), these days the vitamin B 12 myth occasionally surfaces.
