The Dobsonian Telescope, A Practical Manual for Building Large Aperture Telescopes by David Kriege and Richard Berry

Every step of construction is detailed in photographs and diagrams, and the underlying ideas are carefully explained. As a result of this three-year collaboration between authors David Kriege and Richard Berry, experienced and well-known telescope makers, you now have the opportunity to build a high-performance telescope from 14 inches to 40 inches aperture based on the thoroughly tested designs described in this book. The Dobsonian telescope takes its name from the astronomer/philosopher John Dobson, who introduced the concept of inexpensive, large-aperture telescopes to astronomy. Since those early telescopes, Dobsonians have improved dramatically. .

A Scope Like "Alice"

Setting the Stage In 1991, Bob Scholtz (my brother-in-law) and I took a trip to Australia to spend some time observing with the members of the Astronomical Society of New South Wales, and to trek through Australia's Northern Territory... the fabled "Outback. " Bob and I are both amateur telescope makers (ATM's) from way back, and both of us have multiple instruments under our belts.

I had recently come across glass blanks for making a 6" telescope mirror, and planned to ask Bob to grind and polish the optics for a portable telescope I would build. Apparently he had planned to build a rich-field 8" telescope but never finished it. I set about making the rest of the instrument. Dave Kriege of Obsession Telescopes contributed suggestions for finish and materials. Now for the Details Dobsonian telescopes work.

The Track & Truss Solution Mirror Box Rocker. Telescope Reviews: So who is Nocom/Tanzutsu and what have I bought? New dobbie mount for 8" f/4 OTA. Hi all, I took a little break from the 17.5" remake to try out a few techniques with making a dobbie mount for an 8" rich field scope.

Peter also has a coma corrector which will be necessary with such a fast scope. Peter (aka Hickny) and I purchased a new 8" f/4 OTA from Bintel this week that was lacking a mirror cell (cheap scope consequently). This is to be a grab-n-go scope which we shall share. You will see in the pics how small and 'cute' it looks, We made a new cell for it, same design as the 17.5", with massive springs to double as collimation springs and locking mechanism with their brute strength.

Today we installed the cell and made the mount.
